Service Tooling Engineer

Figure is an AI robotics company developing autonomous general-purpose humanoid robots. The goal of the company is to ship humanoid robots with human level intelligence. Its robots are engineered to perform a variety of tasks in the home and commercial markets. Figure is headquartered in San Jose, CA.We are looking for a Service Tooling Engineer to design, prototype, and deliver the tooling and equipment that enables our service and deployment teams to safely transport, operate, and maintain our humanoid robots in the field. This role bridges mechanical engineering with hands‑on problem solving – you'll work closely with the service and field teams to understand their needs and deliver practical, durable solutions.ResponsibilitiesDesign tooling, fixtures, and equipment in 3D CAD that satisfy load conditions, ergonomic requirements, and durability needs for field useBuild and test prototypes to validate design – including fit, function, and ease of use by non‑engineersGenerate accurate 2D drawings using GD&T per ASME Y14.5 for internal fabrication or external vendorsWork with internal machine shops, fabrication teams, or external contractors to source and manufacture toolingPartner with Service and Commercial Operations teams to understand requirements and iterate on designsInspect first articles, support field trials, and continuously improve tooling based on real‑world feedbackMaintain clear documentation including BOMs, assembly instructions, and maintenance guidesRequirements2–5 years of experience in mechanical engineering or tooling/fixture designBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar fieldProficient in 3D CAD softwareExperience designing and building prototypesFamiliarity with common fabrication methods: sheet metal, welding, machining, 3D printingAbility to write and maintain clean documentation for design processesStrong communication skills – able to translate field team needs into engineering requirementsHands‑on, pragmatic approach to problem solvingBonus QualificationsExperience designing service tooling, ground support equipment, or maintenance fixturesBackground in automotive, aerospace, or heavy equipment service environmentsExperience working with contract manufacturers or fabrication shopsVehicle upfitting or mobile workshop design experienceExposure to robotics, electromechanical systems, or complex assembliesThe US base salary range for this full-time position is between $100,000 - $150,000 annually.The pay offered for this position may vary based on several individual factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
