Service Supervisor – Alternative Fuels
Location: Allentown, Pennsylvania
Salary: $60.10/hr to $82.12/hr annual base salary depending on experience
Basic Purpose
The Service Supervisor oversees a regional team of field technicians based out of Allentown, PA, responsible for the safe, reliable operation of alternative fuel facilities and related equipment. The role combines hands-on technical work with supervision, scheduling, and customer support to ensure uptime, regulatory compliance, and a high level of service for internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise field technicians performing preventive and corrective maintenance on fueling and energy-related equipment such as compressors, dispensers, dryers, storage systems, controls, and supporting mechanical/electrical systems.
Plan daily work assignments, routes, and priorities from the Allentown base to ensure safe, timely completion of service activities and high asset availability across the assigned territory.
Perform hands-on troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, and control systems as needed, including participation in the on-call rotation for urgent issues.
Monitor labor hours, work orders, and response times; adjust schedules and resources to meet service level expectations and contractual requirements where applicable.
Coordinate and verify completion of preventive maintenance programs, inspections, and testing in line with internal standards, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
Enforce safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout, hazard controls, and incident reporting, and promote a strong safety culture within the team.
Request and manage parts, materials, and contractor services within established purchasing guidelines to support timely repairs and minimize downtime.
Train, coach, and mentor technicians on maintenance procedures, equipment, and work practices, including onboarding and ongoing skills development.
Communicate asset status, planned outages, and significant repair activities to internal stakeholders and customers, providing clear expectations and follow-up.
Support commissioning, upgrades, and modification projects at new or existing sites in cooperation with project and operations teams.
Maintain accurate documentation of work orders, preventive maintenance, inspections, and regulatory records in the appropriate maintenance or asset management systems.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, reliability, technician efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical diploma, apprenticeship, or training in mechanical, electrical, industrial maintenance, or a closely related trade preferred.
Experience
Experience maintaining mechanical and/or electrical systems in a field service, industrial, facilities, or energy-related environment required.
Several years of hands-on maintenance experience with complex equipment such as compressors, pumps, process equipment, or similar systems.
Previous lead, senior technician, or supervisory experience overseeing maintenance or field service personnel strongly preferred.
Skills and Competencies
Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues methodically.
Working knowledge of industrial safety practices and relevant regulations; strong commitment to safe work habits.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, schedules, and sites in a fast-paced environment.
Effective verbal and written communication skills suitable for technicians, customers, and management.
Ability to lead, coach, and hold team members accountable while maintaining a positive, collaborative work environment.
Proficiency with basic computer applications and maintenance or work-order software for documentation and reporting.
Physical and Travel Requirements
Ability to lift and move equipment and materials, and to perform work that may involve standing, bending, climbing, and working in outdoor or industrial environments.
Manual dexterity sufficient to operate tools, test equipment, and technology devices used in maintenance and service work.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly within the region around Allentown; occasional overnight travel may be required.
Availability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours service needs when required.
