Responsibilities/Job Description:

In collaboration with the service line physician chief and the Senior Vice President of Specialty Service Lines, the Oncology Service Line Executive is a senior level executive that facilitates, directs, and coordinates strategic and operational planning to drive market differentiation relative to the delivery of high-quality clinical services and program growth for the service line. This executive works with other service line and health system leaders to assure alignment of local and regional strategies and operational decisions to the organization's overall mission, vision and goals. The service line executive provides oversight for all Oncology services. The service line executive implements and sustains Fairview's Operating Management System using lean methodology and philosophy to shape optimal care model planning and implementation, patient experience, employee engagement, quality and safety, cost management and efficiency initiatives throughout areas of responsibility. The service line executive will also develop a culture that drives quality and safety as a priority and shares responsibility for compliance with regulatory bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive-level strategic direction for the Oncology service line to drive Fairview's mission, vision, strategic initiatives, budget, growth, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Actively partner in a dyad model with physician medical directors to enable top decile care and outcomes within Oncology services.
  • Continuously monitors patient access metrics, department expenses, volumes, revenue, denials/write-offs, and patient experience and implements strategic tactics to mitigate variances in performance.
  • Achieves key performance indicators, creates and leads operational structures that drive engagement and high performing teams (DES, tiered huddles, strategy deployment, and return to green tactics).
  • Provide strategic leadership in the design and deployment of solutions that advance clinical practice, improve patient outcomes and increase patient satisfaction.
  • Ensures that all Oncology health services comply with all applicable standards and requirements of TJC, CMS, DHS, and all other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Creates cohesion and collaboration across all care sites for Oncology health services. Develop processes that improve knowledge sharing, continuous quality improvement, and support the overall transformation of performance across the delivery system.
  • Oversee all physician and provider practice management for the impatient and outpatient Oncology providers. Manages the relationship, contract, and strategy of independent providers.
  • Partners with the medical chief and leaders to ensure all services are rooted in evidence-based practice.
  • Identify the need for human, material, and capital resources and develop plans for assuring their availability.
  • Promotes a culture that encourages the staff to incorporate data and information into practice to improve care and enhance patient outcomes.
  • Use administrative/management evidence to make decisions regarding care delivery, a healthy work environment, resource allocation, staffing, and patient and employee satisfaction. Uses evidence-based knowledge to guide operations decision-making.
  • Promotes open, effective, and ongoing communication and the sharing of information among and between medical staff, employees and leadership at Fairview Health Services, the Academic Health Center, and UMPhysicians related to service line & clinical program performance.
  • Provide strategic leadership in bringing together diverse constituencies for the purposes of conceptualizing, articulating, and implementing a shared vision for the Service Line throughout the Fairview Health System and Academic Health Center. Provide leadership and guidance in shepherding the organization through inevitable change that integrates different points of view and builds ownership.
  • Provides input into the payor contracting strategy; engages with payors to review outcomes and communicate key care model changes, improvements and innovations, as well as developing positive relationships outside of the contracting cycle.


Required Qualifications

  • Masters of Healthcare Admin or Masters in Business Admin or related field
  • 10 years of healthcare administrative/operational experience.
  • Ability to lead and lead change. Ability to lead by example.
  • Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and team/group dynamics skills. Ability to balance the needs and perspectives of multiple constituencies and assist groups in decision making.
  • Collaborative work style with strong communication skills, including verbal, written, listening and presentation skills.
  • Independent decision making and ability to multitask and be flexible.
  • Strong financial statement / Budgeting experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer the experience to be within the last 5 years within a complex hospital environment at a senior level functioning with direct P&L accountability.
  • 5 years progressive leadership experience working in Oncology services.
