TRC Talent Solutions is partnering with a controls and automation organization seeking a Service Engineer / Specialist to support the reliability, uptime, and lifecycle performance of mission-critical control systems. This role is primarily focused on field service operations, system troubleshooting, and continuous performance improvement, with additional support for project execution and customer engagement.
The Service Engineer / Specialist is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing control systems operating in 24/7 environments. The role ensures high system availability through proactive maintenance, rapid incident response, and structured SLA management. The position also supports system upgrades, commissioning, and technical coordination with customers and internal engineering teams.
Inspect, maintain, and update control systems in active operational environments
Troubleshoot control system failures and implement corrective/performance improvements
Monitor service channels (phone, email, ticketing systems) and respond to incidents within SLA requirements
Track KPIs and collaborate with internal teams to resolve issues efficiently
Ensure ongoing system reliability and minimize downtime across supported platforms
Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and respond to critical system events as required
Review P&IDs and develop instrumentation lists
Prepare technical documentation and system configuration records
Configure HMI screens and PLC/DDC/DCS control logic
Support system networking, integration, and configuration activities
Assist with onsite startup, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning
Support customer training and system handover activities
Provide technical expertise during customer and sales discussions
Support identification of additional service opportunities within existing accounts
Maintain strong customer relationships through technical engagement and responsiveness
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in industrial or building automation environments
Experience with one or more of the following platforms:
Tridium Niagara N4
Distech (BACnet, LON, Eclypse Controllers)
Johnson Controls (Metasys, Facility Explorer)
Siemens (Apogee, Talon, DXR, Desigo CC/Insight)
Rockwell Automation (FactoryTalk, RSLogix/Studio 5000, PlantPAx)
Understanding of HVAC systems, P&IDs, and functional testing
Experience troubleshooting live control systems in production environments
Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation
