About the role:
The Server Systems Manager leads enterprise server, storage, and backup/recovery functions, overseeing a team of architects and engineers responsible for the design, operation, and evolution of core infrastructure platforms. This role ensures the reliability, security, scalability, and modernization of on‑premises and hybrid infrastructure services supporting critical business operations.
The position provides people leadership, technical direction, and operational accountability for all critical hybrid on-premises and collocated datacenter compute & storage infrastructure, including core Microsoft infrastructure technologies, server, desktop and application virtualization technologies, as well as all backup and recovery infrastructure. The Server Systems Manager partners closely with Cloud, Network, Database, Security, and Application Development teams to deliver resilient, compliant, and automation‑driven infrastructure platforms.
What you'll be doing:
Leadership & People Management
Lead and develop server, storage, and backup/recovery engineering teams, including architects and senior engineers
Establish clear role definitions across architecture, engineering, and operational support functions
Drive performance management, career development, skill growth, and succession planning
Foster a culture of operational excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
Platform Ownership & Operations
Own the lifecycle, reliability, and supportability of:
Compute & Storage hardware (e.g., Dell, Pure)
Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, identity integrations, and directory services
Microsoft Exchange (on‑premises and hybrid) and Microsoft 365 administration
Backup and recovery platforms (e.g., NetBackup and equivalent enterprise solutions)
Virtualization and VDI platforms (VMware, Citrix)
Linux and Windows server environments
Ensure high availability, disaster recovery readiness, patching, and capacity planning across platforms
Oversee incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective action for infrastructure services
Architecture & Modernization
Partner with infrastructure and cloud architecture stakeholders on platform roadmaps, standards, and modernization initiatives
Guide architectural decisions for hybrid infrastructure, virtualization, identity, and recovery strategies
Drive standardization, automation, and reduction of technical debt across server and storage platforms
Ensure platforms are designed for security, compliance, scalability, and operational efficiency
Governance, Security & Compliance
Enforce operational and architectural standards, including change, configuration, and lifecycle management
Partner with Security, Risk, and Compliance teams to meet audit, regulatory, and policy requirements
Ensure backup, recovery, and identity services meet defined RPO/RTO, resiliency, and access control standards
Support initiatives related to PCI compliance and other regulatory or risk programs as applicable
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Cloud, Network, Security, NOC, and Application Development teams to deliver integrated platform services
Serve as an escalation point for complex infrastructure issues and cross‑team dependencies
Communicate platform health, risks, and roadmap progress to leadership and stakeholders
What you need:
Experience
8+ years of experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering or operations roles
4+ years of experience managing hybrid infrastructure platforms including on-prem datacenters/servers/storage and cloud infrastructure
Proven experience operating large‑scale, business‑critical infrastructure platforms
Technical expertise
Deep knowledge of:
Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, DNS, and identity services
Microsoft Exchange (hybrid Exchange / Exchange Online)
Microsoft Teams administration
Microsoft 365 tenant administration
Enterprise backup and recovery platforms (specifically Cohesity DataProtect or NetBackup)
VMware virtualization platforms (specifically VCF 8, 9)
Cloud infrastructure & platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
Citrix virtualized apps and desktops (on-prem and cloud)
Linux and Windows Server operating systems
Strong understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, monitoring, and capacity management
Working knowledge of automation, scripting, and infrastructure lifecycle management
Leadership & Communication
Ability to lead senior technical staff while balancing strategic direction and operational execution
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief technical and executive audiences
Demonstrated ability to influence cross‑functional teams and drive results without direct authority
Preferred qualifications
Experience operating in hybrid infrastructure or cloud‑adjacent environments
Exposure to infrastructure automation and configuration management tools
Background in infrastructure modernization, data center transformation, or platform consolidation efforts
Relevant technical or leadership certifications (Microsoft, VMware, Linux, or ITIL)

Operational rigor paired with a forward‑looking, automation‑first mindset
Ability to translate business needs into resilient, scalable infrastructure solutions
