Server Assistant Job Description
Job Summary
The Server Assistant supports the front-of-house team by ensuring the dining room operates efficiently and guests receive prompt, attentive service. This role assists servers with clearing and resetting tables, restocking service areas, and maintaining the overall cleanliness and organization of the restaurant.
Server Assistants play an important role in the guest experience by helping maintain a clean and welcoming dining environment while supporting smooth service flow.

Essential Responsibilities
Guest Service & Table Support
- Clear used dishes and glassware from tables and dining areas
- Reset tables according to restaurant standards to prepare for incoming guests
- Support timely and efficient service by assisting with guest needs as directed by servers or managers
- Maintain awareness of dining room flow to help ensure smooth service
Dining Room Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the dining room
- Replenish and restock items such as silverware, plates, glassware, napkins, and condiments
- Assist with opening and closing duties including dining room setup and cleaning
- Maintain guest areas including restrooms, floors, and service stations
- Dispose of trash and assist with general housekeeping tasks
Team Support
- Support front-of-house staff by completing additional tasks during busy service periods
- Help maintain organized service stations
- Occasionally assist in other roles such as host or expo when needed
Physical Requirements
The physical demands listed below are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time (6+ hours per shift)
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 30–40 pounds, including bus tubs and stacks of plates
- Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting while clearing tables and restocking supplies
- Ability to push and pull carts, chairs, and cleaning equipment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment

Qualifications
- Ability to obtain and maintain required food handler certification if applicable
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain a clean and efficient work area
- Ability to prioritize tasks and assist multiple team members simultaneously
- Basic math and counting skills for handling tableware and service items
- Understanding of sanitation and safety procedures
- Ability to work within Iron Hill service standards and service timing expectations
- Friendly and professional interactions with guests and team members
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with servers, kitchen staff, and management
- Strong attention to detail and ability to anticipate service needs
- Commitment to maintaining a positive and hospitable dining environment
Communication & Language Skills
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate clearly with team members and management
- Ability to respond to guest questions or requests by directing them to the appropriate staff member
