DESCRIPTION
The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one ( 1 ) regular, full-time position in the class of Sergeant at the Yolo County Sheriffs Office.
The Position
Under direction, the incumbent will supervise a group of law enforcement personnel performing patrol and investigative work; to supervise a specialized unit in the Sheriffs Office; and to do related work as required.
This class represents the first level of supervision in the law enforcement series. An incumbent whose position is assigned to this class will typically supervise a group of Deputy Sheriffs on an assigned shift, a specialized facility such as a jail or branch jail, or a specialized function such as a civil or investigation unit.
COMPENSATION
The County of Yolo offers the following incentive benefits:
Educational Incentive- Employees shall receive a two and one-half percent (2.5%) increment above base pay for a two-year college degree from an accredited college or university OR five percent (5%) increment above base pay for a four-year college degree from an accredited college or university
POST Incentive- Employees shall receive a two and one-half percent (2.5%) increment above base pay for a POST intermediate certificate OR seven and one-half percent (7.5%) increment above base pay for a POST advanced certificate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; AND
Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience, two of which must be in the class of Deputy Sheriff with the Yolo County Sheriffs Office; AND
Certificate: Possession of a valid POST Basic Certificate issued by the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training.
License: Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California drivers license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.
Knowledge of: general knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of law enforcement work; general knowledge of criminal law including the law of arrest, search and seizure, rules of evidence, and laws governing jail procedures; general knowledge of the basic principles of supervision and training; general knowledge of the collection and analysis of evidence; general knowledge of state law pertinent to civil procedure, including the attachment and sale of property.
Ability to: instruct and supervise subordinate personnel engaged in law enforcement work; ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; ability to interpret, explain, and apply laws and regulations; ability to prepare clear, concise and comprehensive oral and written reports; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with fellow employees, government officials, and the general public.
