Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer / Principal Systems Safety Engineer. This position is located in Roy, UT or Huntsville, AL and supports the Sentinel program.

What Youll Get To Do:

The Sentinel program has an exciting opportunity for a Systems/ Principal Systems Safety Engineer to join the team supporting activities including use case development, requirements definition / allocation, functional decomposition, interface definition, verification & validation, and requirements traceability.

Specific duties to include, but not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate with program IPT counterparts to develop supporting systems engineering and design artifacts
  • Work with both technical teams and stakeholders to develop and mature architecture content of large programs design
  • Help develop and incorporate the appropriate requirements for the system and ensure that they are properly represented in the model
  • Contribute to system requirements development, management, and analysis
  • Develop unifying model techniques, procedures, and processes (for model development, tool integration, and team integration)
  • The candidate will have experience in generation or review of design artifacts to support System Safety analyses utilized in maturing weapons system design for safety and support flight test and flight worthiness of complex systems

Basic Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either the Systems Engineer level (T-02) or Principal Systems Engineer level (T-03).

Required for Both Levels:

  • Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
  • Must have a current or ability to obtain and maintain a Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
  • Experience with C/C++, Java, object-oriented design, or similar experience
  • Experience using MIL-STD-882E or similar processes for hardware and /or software design development

Systems Engineer (T-02):

  • Bachelors degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of experience, 0 years of experience with a Masters degree

Principal Systems Engineer (T-03):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline and 5 years of related experience; 3 years experience with a Master of Science degree; 1 year experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications:

  • System Safety Engineering experience conducting comprehensive system safety analyses IAW MIL-STD-882E, including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), and Operating & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA) to ensure compliance and mitigate operational risks
  • Execute developed processes in Engineering and Manufacturing Development Phase
  • Software development or coding experience
  • Experience using DO-178 for design development
  • Experience developing in an Agile environment
  • Model Based Systems Engineering experience
  • Experience developing missile flight systems software
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) / Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certificate
  • Weapon System experience (Minuteman III or similar military or industry experience)

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
