Job Description and Duties

State Compensation Insurance Fund is looking for a safety professional to join our team who will provide occupational safety and health services to our insured employers in The Greater Bay Area region. The selected candidate will be primarily servicing employers headquartered in Monterey, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz counties.

. The safety staff are field employees, who work in the region they serve.

You will be working with:

• Employers with small- to medium-size workforces, with risks of mid-level complexity
• Employers with one or multiple locations
• Employers with significant losses related to easily identifiable hazards and industrial operations with mid-level sophistication
• Employers with needs for specialized services of lesser complexity, such as industrial hygiene services (i.e. noise dosimetry) or ergonomic surveys of their job sites

Working Conditions

To be considered, you must provide a fully completed STD 678 state application and resume via CalCareers. Resumes submitted in lieu of the STD 678 may not be accepted. Completed STD 678 must include full duties performed, start and end dates, and hours worked per week for each position held.

Selected candidate(s) hired may be required to attend in-person Onboarding at our Vacaville office with expenses for attendance paid by State Fund.

Candidates must reside in California to be eligible for this appointment.

Position will filled from a State Fund home office in: Alameda, San Francisco, or Monterey county.

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract. • Must be able to assess workplace injury/illness risk based on business operations to improve safety.
• Adept at interpreting workplace safety regulations regarding workers' compensation and occupational safety and health.
• Ability to interpret charts, graphs, and mechanical relationships.
• Proficient at public presentations in order to train employees and employers.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated and work with minimal direct supervision.
• Works well in teams.
• Effective written and oral communication. This includes strong report-writing skills with a variety of report-writing software.
• Ability to document effectively, using non-technical terms and vocabulary that will be clearly understood by employers.
• Ability to enter data and use a variety of online database systems.
• Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus but not required for this position.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designations are a plus but not required for this position
