We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual for the position of Senior Vice President of Accounting in our fast-paced Construction industry. Job Details

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met including Charitable Status, Withholding Payments, Goods and Services Tax, Employer Health Tax.
  • Prepare all supporting information for the annual audit and liaise with the Board's Audit Committee and the external auditors as necessary.
  • Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.
  • Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash.
  • Review monthly results and implement monthly variance reporting as compared to budget.
  • Manage the cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts in accordance with policy.
  • Oversee the bookkeeping function including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure and stored in compliance with current legislation.
  • Manage the acquisition of capital assets and ensure that assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed of as appropriate.
  • Assist the President and CEO with financial reporting as required at Board meetings and the Annual General Meetings and provide advice to support the decision-making process.
  • Oversee and manage company financial systems, ensuring maximum productivity and that it aligns with company business goals and objectives.
  • Lead and support the accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior financial managerial position with a proven record of success.
  • Professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, or CPA).
  • MBA or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.
  • Experience in a senior financial-management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies.
  • Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the Construction or Engineering Industry.
  • Experience working with information technology staff to manage finance and accounting software packages.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively interface with senior management, board of directors and staff.
  • Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker.
  • Experience in a multi-entity environment is a must.
  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Engineering is considered a strong asset.
