The Electronic Services Division (ESD) supports all goals, most directly sustaining and enhancing agency infrastructure and business processes, by improving collaboration outcomes between WSP business and technology divisions, using consistent planning processes, increasing business continuity capabilities, and providing quality communication services.
Duties
As a Senior Telecommunications Specialist (STS) you will operate as a journeyman level technician that provides 24x7 maintenance, installation, and support of the WSP public safety communication systems which consist of both digital and analog microwave radio systems, land mobile radio base stations and repeaters, voting systems, communications consoles, and various other infrastructure equipment. Additionally, you will provide maintenance, installation, and support of mobile and portable two-way radios, speed measuring devices (SMD), telecommunications devices such as VoIP telephones, and various other agency electronic equipment support needs. You may be assigned to perform system-level administration and monitoring of complex networked radio and data systems and equipment.
Our new teammate will be able to:
- Perform microwave radio system level analysis to plot trends for Engineer.
- Assist Engineer with system level analysis for failure analysis.
- Provide Engineering support for system design.
- Assist Engineer with site related data to aid in the design and implementation of new systems and system upgrades.
- Assist Engineer with Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) updates for system diagrams and maps.
- Review CAD documents generated by Engineers to aid with design of upgrades and system changes.
- Will support the Field Technicians with additional support for system troubleshooting.
- Perform analysis of data recorded by STSs to determine possible problems.
- Inform Engineers of the results of the analysis for further analysis and probable repairs or fault mitigation.
- Provide engineering support for projects and site level deployments by preparing equipment for installation or issue.
- This position will provide training to the Field STSs as the new systems are implemented and upgraded.
Travel: Travel statewide is required for agency and division functions, training, WSP infrastructure support and project support and this may result in overnight stays. A WSP employee with an assigned take-home vehicle shall live within forty-five (45) miles of their assigned district, division or duty station.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must possess or obtain a valid Washington State driver's license.
- Two years of formal education or training in electronics.
- Five years of paid experience in maintenance and repair of at least one of the following:
- Two-way radio systems and equipment
- Digital Microwave carrier systems.
- Wireless and wired data network systems
- Experience and understanding of computer based applications.
- Knowledge and understanding of computer networks, wiring standards and protocols.
