Client Overview:
Our client is a diverse lifestyle apparel company representing a broad portfolio of nationally and internationally recognized brands. The company owns and licenses multiple apparel brands across various categories, including swimwear and golf apparel, through wholly owned subsidiaries and third-party licensing agreements. They are currently looking to add a Senior Technical Designer to their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate:
$105k - $135k Annually (DOE)

Position Overview:
The Senior Technical Designer is responsible for developing and maintaining garment specifications and fit from initial design concept through final fit approval within women's categories. This role ensures fit consistency and adherence to brand standards for garment construction. It requires advanced technical skills, process management, and problem-solving capabilities.

Responsibilities of the Senior Technical Designer:
  • Collaborate with business partners to clarify design aesthetics, fit intent, and construction details.
  • Build strong working relationships with cross-functional teams including Design, Merchandising, Sourcing, Product Development, overseas offices, and vendors.
  • Develop specifications and garment construction methods for assigned product categories from style development through cost engineering for bulk production.
  • Attend fit sessions to develop brand aesthetic, silhouette, and proportion within price points.
  • Resolve technical issues related to fit, fabric application, construction, grading, and cost engineering.
  • Communicate fit intent and construction revisions effectively to partners and vendors using fit notes, diagrams, pattern corrections, and digital photos.
  • Evaluate prototype and fit samples for measurement, fit, construction accuracy, and quality according to brand standards.
  • Maintain consistency in technical design and product creation processes.
  • Partner with overseas offices and vendor technical teams to ensure execution of fit, construction, and finishing.
  • Ensure brand consistency in aesthetic, fit, and construction across vendors and styles within categories.
  • Communicate with cross-functional teams to meet calendar milestone deliverables.
  • Proactively identify and resolve production, quality, and costing issues, providing recommendations and escalating when necessary with root cause analysis.
  • Track workload and deadlines, coordinating with production partners to avoid delivery delays.
  • Attend key milestone meetings to provide technical support on fit and construction.
  • Foster open communication and a team environment, professionally receiving feedback.
  • Supervise direct reports as needed.
Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Technical Designer:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Technical Design with proficiency in at least two of the following: patternmaking, product engineering, garment construction, or pattern grading.
  • Experience fitting garments in assigned product categories.
  • Ability to analyze fit issues and propose actionable solutions.
  • Experience creating accurate technical specification packages.
  • Proficiency in pattern making, grading, construction methods, and garment engineering.
  • Understanding of end-to-end product development and apparel production processes.
  • Knowledge of fabrics and garment components.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, and resourcefulness.
  • Effective time management with the ability to prioritize and meet overlapping deadlines.
  • Proven organizational skills and adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Competent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Dedicated team player with expert interpersonal skills across diverse cultures and personalities.
  • Ability to embrace market-driven changes openly.
  • Advanced computer skills including Google Apps, Microsoft Office Suite (or alternatives), Adobe Illustrator, PLM, and knowledge of pattern making or 3D software such as Gerber AccuMark, Lectra, Optitex, Browzwear, or Clo.
  • Ability to supervise and train direct reports.
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Apparel Design, Technical Design, or a related field.
