STRUCTURAL SENIOR DESIGN ENGINEER – 9000 Greenville, SC

JOB SUMMARY:
The Structural Senior Design Engineer provides advanced engineering expertise and leadership on complex projects, ensuring technical accuracy and quality across all phases of project execution. This role serves as an Area Lead for structural engineering, overseeing discipline-specific work and supporting multi-discipline coordination in EPC environments.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Structural Senior Design Engineer performs advanced engineering assignments and leads structural design activities for large-scale industrial or nuclear projects. The role analyzes complex technical problems and develops solutions in alignment with project requirements and engineering standards.
Responsibilities include developing and reviewing specifications, design criteria, and engineering calculations for structural systems including foundations, concrete, and steel structures. The position performs structural analysis using both hand calculations and advanced modeling tools, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project quality requirements.
The engineer coordinates closely with project management, other engineering disciplines, vendors, subcontractors, and clients to resolve technical issues and support project execution. The role supports procurement activities including preparation of scopes of work, evaluation of technical bids, and review of vendor submittals.
Additional responsibilities include supporting construction activities by responding to RFIs, addressing field changes, and ensuring design integrity during construction. The engineer contributes to project planning by developing estimates, schedules, progress reports, and forecasting resource requirements.
The position also provides mentorship, technical guidance, and oversight to engineers and designers while monitoring project progress, material quantities, and cost and schedule performance.
WORK HOURS:
A standard 40-hour work week is expected. Additional schedule details will be provided by the client. Overtime may be required to meet project deliverables.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering required.
Experience / Skills:
• Minimum ten (10) years of related engineering experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• Advanced knowledge of structural design and analysis principles
• Experience with large EPC projects in industrial or nuclear environments
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and standards, including DOE requirements
• Proficiency in engineering calculations and structural analysis for complex systems
• Ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
Candidate must possess experience with:
• Structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, and foundation systems
• Software tools such as STAAD, STAADPro, or RISA3D
• Mathcad and other engineering calculation tools
• Wind, seismic, and dynamic structural analysis
• 3D modeling and 2D CADD tools in multi-discipline environments
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• U.S. Citizenship required
• Ability to work in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
• Ability to support construction and field activities as needed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience supporting DOE or federal government projects
• Nuclear facility design experience under NQA-1 requirements
• Demonstrated experience leading large engineering projects
• Practical field or construction experience
• Experience in industries such as nuclear, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or biotech
