Brief Job Description

Internal applications are being accepted for the position of Assistant Director for the Muriel A. Howard Honors Program. This is an internal job posting limited to active employees at SUNY Buffalo State who are currently paid from any state-appropriated-funds payroll.

Position Summary: The Assistant Director of the Muriel A. Howard Honors Program will primarily focus on student recruitment, engagement, enrichment, and retention as well as supporting the initiatives and needs of the Honors Director. Primary responsibilities include:

Teach HON111 Introduction to Honors each fall semester or teach HON444 Honors Senior Seminar or other courses in specialty as needed

Supervise approximately 20 student peer mentors; supervise graduate assistant and undergraduate interns

Coordinate Honors Program events and special programming; implement and evaluate the Honors Leaders peer mentoring program; coordinate Honors Ambassadors for Admissions events and special programs; assist with all summer orientation events

Assist with recruitment and outreach for prospective and new Honors students; manage social media accounts and maintain website; develop, publish, and distribute Honors Program newsletter; coordinate weekly communications to the Honors Program students, faculty, and stakeholders; assist with outreach to Honors alumni

Assist in tracking and reviewing student progress; Assist Honors Director with data management, assessment, and reporting; Serve as first line liaison for various campus partners; Assist Honors Director with other projects as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related area of study.
  • Experience either advising, mentoring, supervising, and/or teaching college students
  • Must have track record of engaging students in events and activities.
  • Detailed knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel, and programs to build a newsletter.
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms and the ability to build and update website.
  • Must be willing to work occasional evenings or weekend program events.
