Job Description:
Our client is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to partner closely with the Director of Accounting in driving efficiency, accuracy and continuous improvement across financial planning, processing and reporting functions. This role offers a blend of technical accounting, financial analysis and project-based work, requiring a high level of ownership, initiative and attention to detail. The ideal candidate is comfortable making independent decisions, managing multiple priorities and contributing to strategic initiatives that impact the organization. Candidates may be based anywhere in the Midwest; specific onsite/hybrid expectations will be discussed.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and analyze financial statements.
Manage audit support, account reconciliations and policy accounting.
Research and apply accounting regulations for compliance and special scenarios.
Oversee accounting and reporting for the organization’s charitable foundation.
Review financial reports for accuracy, completeness and consistency.
Partner on regulatory and tax reporting efforts.
Lead or support special projects from inception through completion.
Collaborate cross-functionally and communicate financial insights clearly.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
5-10 years of progressive accounting experience
Experience in financial services or insurance (preferred)
Statutory accounting experience (preferred, not required)
CPA or CPA (preferred)
Strong understanding of financial statements and accounting principles
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High attention to detail with strong analytical capabilities
Self-starter mindset with a sense of urgency and ability to work independently or on a team
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and ability to learn new systems
Pay Range:
The anticipated pay range for this position is $45 - $60 hourly. We understand that salary is an important factor in a job search, and we encourage you to apply even if you feel that your desired compensation may fall outside of the listed range. The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
