Goodspeed Merrill is a fast-growing, entrepreneurial law firm dedicated to helping business owners, entrepreneurs, and investors build, protect, and scale successful companies. As our firm continues to grow and expand, we are seeking an Senior Staff Accountant to join our team.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys working in a dynamic environment, supporting financial operations, and ensuring accuracy across billing and accounting functions. You will collaborate with attorneys, leadership, and staff to deliver reliable financial reporting while contributing to a high-performing, team-oriented culture.


What You'll Do

  • Perform full-cycle accounting functions including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and month-end and year-end close procedures in accordance with GAAP
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
  • Manage the full-cycle legal billing process, including pre-bill review, edits, and e-billing submissions
  • Process accounts receivable transactions including cash receipts, payment application, and reconciliations
  • Support accounts payable and general accounting functions as needed
  • Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, unapplied cash, and client account issues in a timely manner
  • Support collections efforts by monitoring aged receivables and coordinating follow-up on outstanding balances
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and trust/IOLTA accounts in compliance with firm policies
  • Utilize Excel and accounting systems for reporting, analysis, and financial tracking
  • Partner with attorneys and internal teams to resolve financial questions and ensure accuracy
  • Maintain organized financial records and consistently meet deadlines


What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Strong understanding of GAAP principles
  • Experience with legal billing and accounting systems preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel and financial software
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
