Performs highly skilled work and leads support for complex accounting and fiscal management of externally funded sponsored projects. Partners closely with stakeholders and system owners in performing financial analysis, and support financial reporting solutions.

Description of Duties

  • Provides guidance and support to staff, program managers and investigators in the area of sponsored programs including, but not limited to, reviewing the financial terms and conditions of agreements; ensures expenditures are allowable, allocable and appropriate; provides financial reports in a timely and accurately manner; submits requests for cash drawdowns; and monitors effort reporting and cost sharing.
  • Provides policy and procedure interpretation to University departments and prepares complex reports to federal and sponsoring agencies.
  • Acts as subject matter expert for the interpretation of OMB Circulars and other sponsor guidelines, policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Participates in the development, testing and implementation of new and revised accounting and operational procedures.
  • Provides advanced post-award support for complex awards and contracts, which includes award set-ups, financial reporting, invoicing, monitoring expenditures, managing cost sharing, managing collections, requesting and posting federal fund drawdowns and re-budgeting.
  • Conducts compliance reviews of expenditure requests and cost transfers to determine allowability, allocability, and appropriateness.
  • Serves as liaison and coordinates financial activities with internal and external agencies.
  • Prepares and submits financial reports and schedules for restricted funds groups, which includes running queries, conducting complex analysis, and preparing accounting journal entries, as required.
  • Prepares, reviews, and analyzes periodic financial reports for institutional reporting purposes.
  • Identifies and analyzes problems and/or proposals, distinguishes between relevant and irrelevant information, and assesses risks to make logical decisions and provide solutions to supervisor, departmental staff, and/or program managers.
  • Assist in managing workload priorities and assignments.
  • Acts as primary point of contact for complex issues in support of program managers, coordinators and other Institution offices and divisions
  • Plans and presents trainings to departmental staff, program managers, and investigators.
  • Assists with special projects and other assignments involving sponsored projects activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field from an accredited university.

Required Experience

Four (4) years of governmental or fund accounting experience including, experience in sponsored programs accounting, and working knowledge of contract and grant administration procedures and regulations.
