Position:  Senior Software Engineer


Responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the company’s production trading systems and the data infrastructure that supports machine learning for both production trading and research. Involves building real-time, distributed systems that execute trades across multiple global markets, asset classes, and developing scalable pipelines for historical and real-time data processing. Collaborates with research, trading, finance, legal, and infrastructure teams to define requirements and deliver end-to-end trading systems. Responsibilities include improving system reliability, performance, and observability; integrating new markets, assets, and external data sources; leading complex cross-functional technical projects; and mentoring engineers by establishing and sharing engineering best practices.


This position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field and 6 years related experience. Must also have each of the following: (1) 5 years of professional software engineering experience in designing, building and maintaining large scale, production distributed systems, including demonstrated experience with low level distributed systems concepts such as data sharding and partitioning, quorum & leader election, redundancy and cellularization, load balancing, caching, write-ahead and segmented logs; (2) 4 years demonstrated experience leading overall architecture designs spanning multiple services, gaining cross-team consensus, and setting team level charters and long-term team roadmaps to meet said goals; (3) 4 years of demonstrated experience optimizing large scale Data infrastructure, including optimizing data-stores and databases (e.g., AWS DynamoDB, AWS S3), data-streaming (e.g., Kafka & Flink), and data pipelines (e.g., Airflow); (4) 4 years of demonstrated experience with other Cloud, data observability tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus), and Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform); (5) 5 years of demonstrated experience building and improving highly available data-services with multiple 9s of uptime availability, including demonstrated experience leading large scale incident retrospectives in all phases including responsibility for 1) leading mitigations during incidents, 2) root causing said outages, 3) presenting engineering retrospectives, and 4) proposing & driving action items to prevent future recurrence; (6) Demonstrated experience profiling complex services to identify performance bottlenecks and eliminating them, including memory profiling, CPU profiling, Memory & Heap analysis, and identifying Thread starvation and I/O bottlenecks; (7) Demonstrated experience mentoring and coaching junior engineers to the delivery of other organizational goals; and (8) 6 years of demonstrated experience in general purpose programming languages (e.g., Go/C++) and data science libraries (e.g., Python, Pandas).
