Amazon Aurora DSQL is a serverless, distributed SQL database with virtually unlimited scale, highest availability, and zero infrastructure management. Aurora DSQL provides active-active high availability, delivering strong data consistency designed for 99.99% single-Region and 99.999% multi-Region availability. Aurora DSQL automatically manages and scales system resources, so you dont have to worry about maintenance downtime, provisioning, patching, or upgrading infrastructure.

The Aurora DSQL JumpStart team is revolutionizing how developers build applications with databases, especially in the agentic era. Were making DSQL easy for AI-assisted development by creating frictionless developer experiences, building integrations with modern development tools, and establishing DSQL as a leading database integrated with frameworks and AI coding assistants.

As a Senior Engineer on the JumpStart team, youll lead technical strategy at the intersection of database technology and developer experience. Youll own the architecture and delivery of tools, documentation, integrations, and user interfaces that enable millions of developers-both human and AI agents-to successfully build applications on DSQL. Youll lead projects requiring work from multiple engineers, drive technical decisions that shape how developers interact with DSQL, and mentor team members to deliver exceptional developer experiences.

An ideal candidate has deep experience building developer platforms, SDKs, or developer-facing products at scale, understands both backend systems and front-end user experiences, and has led teams through complex technical challenges. Youll define technical strategy for AI coding assistant integrations, establish patterns for building AI-ready documentation and tools, and drive consensus across teams on developer experience improvements. Youre comfortable leading architecture discussions, making trade-offs between short-term delivery and long-term maintainability, and influencing product direction through technical leadership.

Job Responsibilities

As a senior technical leader, youll drive impact across the JumpStart team and influence the broader DSQL organization. Youll bring deep expertise in developer experience, AI-assisted development, and technical leadership. Youll also:

  • Lead the technical strategy and architecture for developer tools, SDKs, console features, and AI integrations
  • Own team-level architecture for the JumpStart platform, providing system-wide design guidance and influencing team strategy
  • Lead multi-engineer projects to build authentication systems, ORM adapters, database drivers, and console experiences
  • Establish patterns and best practices for creating AI-ready documentation, code samples, and developer tools
  • Partner with ISVs and framework providers to architect DSQL integrations at scale
  • Define and implement mechanisms to measure, benchmark, and continuously improve developer experience
  • Mentor and coach multiple engineers on the team, helping them grow their technical and leadership skills
  • Influence product roadmap and prioritization based on developer needs and technical constraints
  • Lead design reviews for the team and actively participate in design reviews for related teams

A Day in the Life

Youll lead strategic initiatives that shape how millions of developers experience DSQL. You might spend your morning architecting a new authentication framework that works seamlessly across all major ORMs, afternoon leading a design review for ISV integration patterns, and evening mentoring an engineer on building effective AI tool integrations. Youll:

  • Drive technical decisions that balance immediate developer needs with long-term platform scalability
  • Lead cross-team initiatives, influencing multiple teams roadmaps to improve the end-to-end developer experience
  • Work closely with product management to translate customer feedback into technical strategy
  • Proactively identify and resolve architecture deficiencies that create friction for developers
  • Set the technical direction for how DSQL becomes the database of choice for agentic development
  • Participate in hiring, performance evaluations, and career guidance for team members

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
