The City of Fayetteville's Parks, Recreation & Maintenance department is currently recruiting for a Senior Skilled Trades Technician to lead, oversee, and participate in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for providing skilled work in performing a range of practices in the maintenance, repair, alteration and construction of city buildings, facilities, park equipment and fixtures including carpentry, painting, electrical, HVAC and plumbing. This position may assume the duties of the supervisor in his/her absence. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Lead, plan, train, participate and review the work of staff responsible for providing repair to city facilities, equipment, irrigations systems or timers, appliances and buildings by performing a variety of skilled carpentry, masonry, painting, concrete work, welding, plumbing, irrigation, storm drain, electrical, HVAC and mechanical repair work. Operate various mechanical tools and equipment such as saws, drills, ditch witch machine, aerial lift truck, chip truck with dump, brush chipper, cutters and various hand tools required for electrical, carpentry, plumbing and maintenance activities. Estimate time, materials, and equipment required for jobs assigned; project cost and requisition materials as required. Maintain and repair city facilities, equipment, systems or fixtures, appliances and buildings by performing the most advanced skilled carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and mechanical repair work. Install a variety of electrical circuits for City equipment and appliances including lighting, airfield lighting, receptors, HVAC, air compressors, welders, front-end equipment, computers, score boards, gates, garage door openers and other electrical appliances. Maintain, repair and install plumbing fixtures and systems, including repairing flush valves, leaking toilets, broken pipes, unclogging drain lines, servicing and replacing backflow preventers, and performing related activities. Perform advanced carpentry work, including repairing roof leaks, installing acoustic and drywall ceilings, installing windows and doors, replacing locks, constructing walls, preparing walls for painting, installing flooring, installing siding and performing other related activities. Participate in a variety of activities requiring travel including off-site inspections and repairs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Two years experience in one or more of the building maintenance trades. Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in a field related to the area of assignment. LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS: Required: Possession of an appropriate valid drivers license and ability to maintain insurability. Preferred: EPA Section 608 certification; Backflow Inspector certification; Backflow Rebuilding certification; Playground Safety Inspector certification; Pool Operator certification; Forklift Operator certification; Equipment Operator training. From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check. Coverage is available for all regular status employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week. Employees may also choose to cover eligible dependents. Holidays: The City of Fayetteville observes 12 paid holidays per calendar year. When Christmas day is on a Wednesday, an additional holiday is provided making for 13 paid holidays. Bereavement: Regular employees are eligible for bereavement leave. The City will authorize 24 hours per calendar year to mourn or attend a funeral or memorial service of a family member. Retirement: The City of Fayetteville assists employees in securing their financial future during retirement by participating in the NC Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System, administered by the State of North Carolina. Regular employees scheduled to work 20 hours or more per week become members in the retirement system upon employment. As a member of this system, employees are required to contribute 6% of their gross salary on a tax-deferred basis. Deferred Compensation Plans: To further assist employees in saving for retirement, the City offers two supplemental retirement savings programs. These programs enable regular full-time, and part-time employees working at least 20 hours per week, an opportunity to save a portion of their salary on a tax-deferred basis to supplement their retirement benefits. These programs are the NC 401(k) plan and NC 457 plan; both administered by Empower. The City currently contributes 3% of base salary to an eligible employee's NC 401(k) account with a proposal, but must be approved by Council, to increase to 4% for Plan Year 25/26.
