Job Description

Performs difficult administrative work administering and evaluating all nutrition and transportation programs, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Senior Services Director. Continuous supervision is exercised over senior site coordinators and volunteers.

Hours for this position are Monday - Friday 7 am to 4 pm

Position Responsibilities

  • Facilitates a safe work environment where employees are treated with respect, dignity, and compassion.
  • Manages performance and completes annual performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Develops, plans, implements, and oversees nutrition and transportation in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines.
  • Evaluates staff performance; takes personnel action and implements disciplinary actions; counsel staff regarding performance and employee personnel policies.
  • Ensures senior site compliance with Federal, state, local, and grant standards.
  • Coordinates volunteers for congregate and home delivered nutrition programs.
  • Assists with budget preparation for the senior sites and monitors expenditures.
  • Prepares a variety of reports and maintains files.
  • Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of the social, economic and behavioral characteristics of senior citizens in the county; ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of subordinates; ability to prepare administrative and financial reports; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to prepare and maintain records; ability to express complex ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the county and community officials, governmental agencies, program participants, media personnel and the general public.

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements

Associates/Technical degree with coursework in human services, or related field and considerable experience supervising and working with the elderly, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

North Carolina Local Governmental Employees Retirement System

Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the retirement system and must contribute 6% of their gross salary each pay period. Once eligibility requirements are met, employees will be able to receive monthly payments for life based on their salary, age, and years of service credit.

NC401k

The County contributes 1% of employees gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employees deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 4%.

Vacation Leave

Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. With each 5-year increment of employment, vacation accrual increases.

Sick Leave

Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.

Paid Holidays

County employees receive paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners approves and may adjust the schedule as deemed necessary.

ComPsych Mental Health Services

The County provides Mental Health and Life Services through ComPsych to help employees and their families with personal, family and job-related problems such as counseling, crisis support, work-life resources, legal and financial consultations, and organizational support tools.
