- Leads the planning, execution, and oversight of research projects.
- Trains and supervises technical and scientific staff.
- Demonstrates detailed knowledge of Undersea Medicine principles and theories.
- Designs and implements experimental protocol.
- Coordinates and prepares new grant and funding applications.
- Makes major contributions to scientific literature and conferences.
- Prepares publication-ready manuscripts.
- Finalizes reports and reviews for submission to scientific journals and patent applications.
- Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards.
- Collects, processes, and interprets experimental data.
- Serves as in-house subject matter expert to UMD leadership on all aspects of DoW project planning budget and execution planning as it pertains to research.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
- Will assist UMD leadership in budget plans/forecasts, preparation, approval, monitoring.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Direct Supervisor: Provides expert guidance to UMD leadership on the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, starting salaries and merit increases; conduct employee performance evaluations and direct work activities.

The Navy Medical Research Command works with animals models on both basic science protocols and functional testing on human-similar animal models to further the knowledge base of the United States Department of War in developing new tactics and techniques as well as improving force health protection for the American warfighter. Undersea Medicine Department specifically works to support military divers and submariners in performing their respective missions.
