Smith Industries is a fast-growing pressure vessel and industrial fabrication manufacturer serving the oil and gas industry from our Midland, TX facility. We are looking for a Senior Safety Manager who builds safety culture through presence, accountability, and genuine ownership of outcomes.

This is a high-impact role with direct access to leadership and real authority to drive change across our operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve company-wide HSE programs, policies, and procedures across all operations.
  • Drive compliance with OSHA, TCEQ, DOT, and customer-specific safety requirements — staying ahead of regulatory changes before they become issues.
  • Lead risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations with a focus on root cause analysis and sustainable corrective action.
  • Track, analyze, and report both leading and lagging safety indicators to measure progress and identify trends before they become incidents.
  • Build strong working relationships with leadership, supervisors, and front-line employees to create a proactive, ownership-driven safety culture.
  • Oversee safety training programs, PPE readiness, equipment inspections, and all HSE documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, third-party audits, and customer safety requirements.
  • Mentor and develop HSE team members, setting clear expectations and building a team that holds itself accountable.
Experience

  • 8+ years of progressive HSE experience, with at least 5 years in heavy fabrication, manufacturing, or a comparable industrial environment.
  • Deep working knowledge of OSHA 1910 and 1926 standards and applicable environmental regulations.
  • A proven track record in incident prevention, risk management, and regulatory compliance — you can point to outcomes, not just activities.
  • Preferred certifications: CSP, CIH, OSHA 30-Hour (General Industry and/or Construction), First Aid/CPR Instructor.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred — our workforce is diverse and communication matters.
  • Strong presence on the floor — you are as comfortable in the shop as you are in a leadership meeting.
