Senior Project Engineer

INTERA Incorporated is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Geological Engineer to join our Albuquerque, New Mexico, office. This role will contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of remediation, reclamation, and environmental characterization projects that help clients address complex environmental challenges, meet regulatory requirements, and sustainably manage natural resources.The ideal candidate is a collaborative problem-solver who enjoys balancing technical work, project leadership, and client engagement. Responsibilities may include developing remedial strategies, leading environmental investigations, evaluating treatment system performance, supporting mine reclamation and closure efforts, and providing technical guidance on contaminated site management. This role is well-suited for professionals seeking to expand their impact, lead meaningful environmental projects, and help shape sustainable solutions for communities and industries throughout the region.Key ResponsibilitiesLead remediation, reclamation, and environmental engineering projectsManage project budgets, schedules, deliverables, and client communicationsDevelop technical reports, remedial designs, feasibility studies, and optimization evaluationsDesign and oversee environmental field investigations and monitoring programsSupport mine waste, tailings management, closure, and reclamation projectsDevelop conceptual site models and support risk assessment activitiesPrepare design drawings, specifications, and construction documentsMentor junior staff and collaborate across multidisciplinary teamsSupport business development and cultivate client relationshipsRequired QualificationsB.S. in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Geological Engineering, or a related field15+ years of relevant professional experienceDemonstrated experience managing environmental or engineering projects or tasksPrior experience in all engineering stages of design-build projects, including feasibility studies, conceptual designs, development of construction drawings and specifications, engineering cost estimates, construction quality assurance, and record document developmentStrong technical writing, data analysis, verbal and graphic communication, and project management skills.Field experience with sample collection and construction oversightExperience with site reclamation, remediation technologies, and environmental compliance.Familiarity with state and federal environmental regulations (e.g., RCRA, CERCLA, NMED/NMAC, EPA) and risk-based criteriaAbility to work independently and as part of a teamPreferred QualificationsProfessional engineering licensureMaster's degree in engineering, hydrology, or a related fieldExperience with mining reclamation, groundwater remediation, soil vapor extraction, contaminated site investigations, or landfill design and permitting in the Southwest U.S.Experience with landfill construction QA/QC and certification, landfill gas management, drilling oversight, BMP selection, and SWPPP developmentProficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for grading plans, utility design drawings, and sheet set managementKnowledge of HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HELP, air quality regulations, and environmental permittingExperience with GIS tools and applications, SCADA, groundwater/surface water/vadose zone modeling, statistical methods, environmental chemistry, or contaminant fate and transportOSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and/or MSHA trainingAbout INTERA & Our BenefitsINTERA is a Top Workplaces USA 2025 award winner!Founded in 1974, INTERA has grown into an international geosciences and engineering consulting firm that helps clients make informed business decisions, mitigate risk, and drive optimal outcomes in a multitude of industries.
