Job Description

This position will serve as an Electrical Engineer within our Facility Engineering group at the Harbor Drive (downtown) facility of Solar Turbines. This position manages electrical projects related to Harbor Drive facility improvements, modifications, or surveys. This includes preparing all estimates related to engineering drawings and specifications for work that is part of a major project or a total project of moderate scope. This Electrical Engineer position will evaluate our site electrical infrastructure needs and will prepare long-term cost and usage studies. Performs all necessary scheduling and coordinating of projects with internal customers, Harbor Drive Maintenance, construction personnel, and outside contractors. This includes managing capital budgets, contractor POs and invoicing, and contractor safety.

Principle Accountabilities

• Provide electrical power distribution engineering analysis for facility-wide electrical needs. • Lead the design, analysis, and optimization of high-voltage (12kV) distribution systems, substations, and switchgear. • Perform power system studies: load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, arc-flash, grounding, and dynamic stability. • Develop protective relaying schemes, settings, and coordination for transmission/distribution interfaces. • Provide technical oversight during construction, commissioning, and energization of high-voltage equipment. • Manage high and low voltage single line drawings for buildings and facility. • Develop life cycle plans, including inspection and test programs for all switch gear, transformers, and battery backup systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering • 5-8 years of Electrical Engineering experience • Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, NESC, NEC and applicable utility standards • Working knowledge of AutoCAD • Working knowledge with Office 365

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters degree in Electrical Engineering • Professional Engineer (PE) license in California • 10+ years of progressive experience in electrical power engineering, with at least 7 years focused on high-voltage distribution systems (12kV and above) • Thorough knowledge of protective relaying (SEL, GE, Siemens), substation equipment, and distribution automation
