Responsibilities

This opportunity requires 25% travel to facilities. Candidate must be located in Pacific Time Zone.

The Senior Manager of Payer Engagement manages day-to-day payer needs for an assigned portfolio of SCA Health facilities and supports the execution of payer strategies that drive revenue sustainability, growth, and enterprise value. This role partners with Operations, Finance, Development, Revenue Cycle, clinical leaders, and payer stakeholders to execute tactical negotiation strategies, advance payer relationships, support growth initiatives, and translate data into actionable plans.

The ideal candidate brings payer contracting or reimbursement experience, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to build trusted relationships across a matrixed organization. This teammate should demonstrate ownership, sound judgment, service excellence, and the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders in support of SCA Health's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Execute Payer Strategy and Contracting Priorities
  • Manage day-to-day contracting needs for a portfolio generally spanning 8-13 centers and $50M-$150M NPR, ensuring contracting priorities are aligned with operational, financial, and growth objectives.

  • Execute tactical payer negotiation strategies established in partnership with leadership, with increasing ability to identify opportunities, manage risk, and drive revenue sustainability.

  • Monitor payer performance, contracting opportunities, reimbursement trends, and access issues to support facility and market-level decision-making.

  1. Advance Payer Relationships
  • Build productive payer relationships and position SCA Health as a collaborative, solutions-oriented partner.

  • Support annual contracting plans while managing payer relationships effectively and credibly.

  • Communicate the ASC value proposition by aligning payer priorities with access, affordability, quality, and mutual value.

  1. Partner with Operations and Internal Stakeholders
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle, Finance, Operations, and other internal teams to identify and resolve contractual or reimbursement issues impacting collections, performance, or growth.

  • Provide clear, timely communication to stakeholders regarding payer risks, opportunities, negotiation status, and action plans.

  • Participate in operating reviews, growth discussions, physician partnership conversations, and cross-functional workstreams as needed to support revenue and volume growth.

  1. Support Growth, Development, and Strategic Initiatives
  • Execute strategies and tactics that support revenue growth through inorganic activities, including acquisitions, de novos, service line expansion, and other development opportunities.

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in contracting processes, payer reporting, stakeholder communication, and execution discipline.

  1. Use Data, Metrics, and Reporting to Drive Action
  • Leverage payer, reimbursement, operational, and financial data to identify opportunities, risks, and recommended actions.

  • Translate complex data and contracting concepts into clear recommendations that field operators and payer stakeholders can act on.

  • Establish and meet personal performance targets tied to payer strategy execution, negotiation tactics, and portfolio priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, healthcare administration, management, or a related field.

  • Experience with payer contracting, reimbursement, managed care, payment systems, or healthcare contracting strategy.

  • Strong understanding of reimbursement dynamics and ability to interpret financial and operational data.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in communicating payer strategy, contract portfolio status, and action plans.

  • Ability to think strategically about markets and identify opportunities and risks within an assigned portfolio.

  • Ability to leverage data and translate findings into clear, actionable plans for Operations and payer engagement stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, communicate proactively, and follow through on commitments.
