The Opportunity:

The Senior Paralegal will provide vital legal and administrative support for the organization. This role will focus on drafting and reviewing contracts, managing the contract lifecycle database, legal research, document preparation, regulatory compliance support, special projects, and general paralegal duties. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in contract analysis, agreements review, and healthcare compliance knowledge with a sharp eye for risk and compliance issues.

Monitor, research, and summarize federal and state regulatory developments (e.g., CMS, state Medicaid); proactively communicate updates and support the Compliance team through preparation of concise summaries, reports, and regulatory analysis.

The Senior Paralegal is a key player in maintaining the organization’s legal efficiency while embodying the organization’s core values. This role reports to the Senior Vice President, Compliance Officer.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Paralegal / Contracting Responsibilities

  • Review, draft, and assist in the negotiation of vendor contracts, non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), business associate agreements (BAAs), confidentiality agreements, consulting agreements, insurance certificates, and other managed care contracts.
  • Identify and escalate key legal risks, compliance concerns, and material business terms for appropriate review.
  • Assist in redlining contracts, summarizing key provisions, and ensuring alignment with corporate policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain an organized contract database, including tracking of key terms, deadlines, renewals, and amendments.
  • Review legal and contract documents and coordinate communications with outside counsel and internal stakeholders.
  • Conduct legal research related to healthcare laws, contract interpretation, and industry best practices.
  • Prepare memoranda, reports, and legal summaries for senior leadership.

Regulatory Affairs & Compliance Support

  • Monitor, track, and research federal and state regulatory developments relevant to the organization, including guidance from CMS, state Medicaid agencies, and other regulatory authorities.
  • Analyze regulatory updates and identify potential impacts to the organization’s compliance program.
  • Prepare clear, concise summaries, reports, and briefings to support regulatory awareness for the Compliance team and senior leadership.
  • Maintain organized documentation and reference materials related to laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance.
  • Assist the Compliance team in interpreting regulatory requirements and supporting compliance program activities.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are reviewed and maintained in alignment with applicable program, insurance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in drafting, tracking, and maintaining organizational policies, procedures, and related documentation.
  • Support compliance with corporate governance and licensing requirements.

General Responsibilities

  • Assist Compliance department, as needed.
  • Lead document retention practices and provide guidance to staff on recordkeeping requirements.
  • All other duties assigned.
  • Adhere to all regulatory compliance and quality guidelines, as well as AlohaCare policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining AlohaCare’s confidential information in accordance with AlohaCare policies, state and federal laws, rules and regulations regarding confidentiality. Employees have access to AlohaCare data based on the data classification assigned to this job title.

Requirements:

Preferred Requirementss:

  • Paralegal certification (ABA-approved program).
  • Prior experience in contract negotiation and dispute resolution.
  • Familiarity with CMS regulations, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and HIPAA compliance.

Mental, Physical and Environmental Demands:

Salary Range: $61,000 - $83,000 annually
