This hands-on, production-embedded role focuses on detecting, containing, and resolving nonconformances at the source to prevent defects from reaching customers.

Operating with a high degree of independence, this position partners with production, engineering, and maintenance to drive immediate corrective actions, reduce rework and scrap, and standardize quality expectations across all shifts. Success is measured by a zero-defect escape mindset, rapid issue resolution, and measurable improvements in product quality and operational performance.

  • Perform in-process inspections to verify dimensional accuracy, weld quality, and surface conditions
  • Ensure compliance with shop drawings, order requirements, and customer specifications

Containment & Quality Authority
  • Stop production when quality risks are identified
  • Establish and manage quarantine areas for nonconforming materials
  • Determine defect disposition, including rework, scrap, or use-as-is, and prevent downstream impact

Dimensional & Technical Validation
  • Interpret drawings using GD&T and verify critical tolerances and alignments
  • Use measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to confirm product conformance
  • Validate frame squareness, door flatness, and hardware alignment

Welding & Fabrication Oversight
  • Inspect weld quality, including penetration, porosity, and finish, to ensure compliance with standards
  • Verify material integrity, gauge compliance, and forming quality
  • Partner with production teams to improve consistency and throughput

Root Cause & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead rapid root cause analysis using structured problem-solving methods such as 5 Whys and Fishbone
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to implement and validate corrective actions
  • Drive reductions in scrap, rework, and recurring defects

Systems & Data Management
  • Document nonconformances in SAP S/4HANA
  • Support traceability, quality notifications, and performance reporting
  • Provide data to support cost of poor quality, yield improvement, and operational metrics

Customer Quality Protection
  • Ensure compliance with UL, ANSI, SDI, and fire-rated requirements
  • Validate hardware preparation and product compatibility
  • Serve as the final quality checkpoint prior to shipment

Standardization & Training
  • Define and reinforce visual quality standards and inspection criteria
  • Train operators and supervisors on defect identification and quality expectations
  • Promote consistency across shifts, cells, and facilities

  • Hands-on experience in shop floor production, quality inspection, or quality engineering
  • Strong background in welding and sheet metal fabrication
  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and manufacturing tolerances
  • Understanding of door and frame construction and hardware preparation requirements
  • Proven ability to make independent decisions and stop production when necessary
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
