Description

Are you a licensed paramedic looking for a new challenge? Do you want to use your medical expertise to help people in crisis while working alongside first responders and behavioral health professionals? The City of Round Rock is seeking a Senior Medical Specialist to join our innovative team focused on community health and crisis response.

This is not a traditional first-responder role-you won't be riding an ambulance or fighting fires-but you will play a critical part in supporting first responders on calls, providing medical assessments, and helping individuals living with psychiatric illness or substance use disorders get the care they need.

If you're passionate about helping people, collaborating with diverse teams, and making a difference in your community, this is the role for you.

Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.

Examples of Duties

As a Senior Medical Specialist, you'll provide direct patient care in crisis settings and serve as the medical lead for our Behavioral Health Response Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to behavioral health and substance use crisis calls alongside first responders and behavioral health specialists.
  • Conduct medical assessments and provide guidance to ensure safe, effective care.
  • Perform follow-up visits with patients treated for overdose or substance use disorder.
  • Facilitate Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and assist with placement into treatment facilities.
  • Provide education and distribute naloxone to agencies and community organizations.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, fire, EMS, and harm reduction agencies to develop care plans.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and assist with quality assurance processes.
  • Serve as a trainer and subject matter expert on overdose prevention and evidence-based treatment strategies.

Experience and Training

We're looking for someone who combines clinical expertise with compassion and teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Emergency Medical Services, Paramedic, Public Health, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience providing emergency medical care in a community setting.
  • Preferred: Bilingual/Bicultural.

Certificates and Licenses Required

  • Current Texas DSHS EMT-Paramedic or Licensed Paramedic certification in good standing. (Credentialling in Williamson County EMS system or Marble Falls EMS system is preferred)
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
