The Opportunity:
The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) - Health Systems & Payer Strategy is a senior‑level, external‑facing Medical Affairs role responsible for engaging executive‑level stakeholders within health systems and payer organizations. This position serves as a strategic scientific partner to C‑suite leaders, medical directors, pharmacy leadership, and payer decision‑makers, providing high‑value clinical, health economics, and outcomes‑based medical insights to support population‑level care, formulary decisions, and system‑wide strategies.
The role emphasizes enterprise‑level scientific engagement, population health perspectives, and value‑based healthcare discussions. It requires a medical professional capable of operating with autonomy, credibility, and influence across complex health system and payer environments.
What you will do:
Executive & Payer Scientific Engagement
Establish and maintain trusted, long‑term scientific partnerships with C‑suite executives, chief medical officers, chief pharmacy officers, medical directors, and senior payer leadership
Serve as the primary Medical Affairs scientific point of contact for assigned health systems, integrated delivery networks (IDNs), and payer organizations
Lead executive‑level, non‑promotional scientific discussions focused on population health, clinical strategy, quality metrics, and value‑based care models
Scientific & Strategic Medical Support
Deliver objective, evidence‑based scientific exchange across relevant disease states and therapeutic areas aligned with health system and payer priorities
Translate clinical evidence, real‑world evidence (RWE), and health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) into insights meaningful for formulary, policy, and system‑level decision‑making
Support payer and health system understanding of evolving clinical guidelines, care pathways, and emerging science
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Collaborate closely with internal Medical Affairs, HEOR, Market Access, Policy, and Commercial partners while maintaining medical independence and compliance
Share field‑based insights to inform medical and commercial strategy, evidence generation, and executive engagement planning
Contribute scientific and strategic expertise to internal initiatives aligned with payer and health system needs
Insights & Thought Leadership
Identify and communicate actionable insights related to payer and health system evidence needs, population health trends, and unmet clinical gaps
Support scientific congresses, advisory boards, and executive forums with payer and health system stakeholders
Act as a recognized scientific expert and trusted medical advisor within assigned accounts
Compliance & Governance
Conduct all activities in full compliance with regulatory, legal, and Medical Affairs standards
Maintain clear separation between medical and promotional activities
Required Qualifications:
Education
Advanced degree required: MD, DO, PharmD or equivalent terminal degree in a scientific or clinical discipline
Experience
3+ years of experience in Pharma with demonstrated success in external scientific engagement
Prior experience engaging payers, health systems, or decision‑makers
Proven ability to lead complex scientific discussions and manage strategic relationships
Skills & Competencies
Strong executive presence with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Deep understanding of US payer dynamics, health system structures, population health, and value‑based care
Strategic thinking, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage complex stakeholder environments
High ethical standards and commitment to scientific integrity and compliance
Travel
Up to 50% travel, including regional and national meetings with health systems, payers, and internal stakeholders
The base pay for this position is $129,300.00 - $258,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
