Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer near San Jose, CA to join a cutting-edge hardware organization specializing in advanced networking and server systems. The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a full-time position and will need to sit onsite Monday-Friday near San Jose, CA. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will play a critical role in driving the execution of chassis and enclosure designs, translating established concepts into manufacturable, high-performance hardware solutions in a fast-paced, highly technical environment.
Responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Engineer:
Lead mechanical design and architecture of rack-mounted systems, including sheet-metal chassis, enclosures, and structural assemblies
Develop manufacturable sheet-metal designs (bending, stamping, PEM hardware, tolerance stack-ups) with strong focus on DFM/DFA
Collaborate closely with thermal engineers to integrate cooling solutions such as airflow systems and liquid cooling components
Partner with electrical, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless system integration and production readiness
Support prototyping, validation (EVT/DVT), and production ramp while resolving issues through root-cause analysis
Qualifications of the Senior Mechanical Engineer:
5+ years of chassis design experience for server or networking hardware
Strong background in product development for mechanical systems, including enclosures, servers, PCBs, cabling, and subsystems
Hands-on expertise in sheet-metal design and fabrication processes, including tolerance management and structural considerations
Experience working cross-functionally with thermal engineering teams to balance performance trade-offs
Knowledge of high-speed and high-power cable and connector design (terabit/sec and high current applications)
Compensation for the Senior Mechanical Engineer includes:
Salary range: $205,000 - $255,000 annually
