Job Description: Perform implementation, configuration, operation and documentation of various power grid and laboratory data acquisition, data handling, OT, IT, communications, and microcontroller systems. Support computing environments used to deliver research project functionality, research capability, and research support. Configure digital systems and tools to enable data acquisition, storage, visualization, implementation, and operation of laboratory data and communications environments to enable device communication, data logging and visualization. Accomplish documentation and record-keeping of various data and communications implementations. Collaborate with NREL staff and researchers to develop and provision data acquisition and communications capabilities to support research projects across the ESIF and with other partnering entities. Collaborate with NREL's Data Analysis and Visualization, Information Technology Services, and Cybersecurity Research teams to provide flexible data acquisition, research project communications capability, and critical research project configuration and troubleshooting for NREL researchers. Telecommuting may be permitted up to 20% of the week.
Job Requirements: Requires Master's degree in Engineering (any), Computer Science, or related field of study and 3 years of experience as a Systems Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Product Engineer, or related occupation OR a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (any), Computer Science, or related field of study and 5 years of experience as a Systems Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Product Engineer, or related occupation. This position requires experience in the following: Hardware and software integration and data communication protocols; Programming and debugging microcontrollers and IO device integrations; Programming in the following: C, MATLAB, graphical programming, shell scripting, Python, Command Line Interface (CLI), hardware interface programming, mathematical and sorting algorithms for analysis of measured quantities; Operating systems including MS Windows, Linux, Unix and iOS; Software version control platforms such as GitHub or GitLab; Data acquisition, data parsing, and visualization tools; Basic wired and wireless communication protocols including debugging and analysis of network packets; Data acquisition instrumentation methods and application, including measurement of electrical parameters; Hardware circuits along with use of power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and sensors ensuring electrical safety and system optimization.
