Description

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Chassis with strong experience designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical hardware systems for high-performance computing, server, networking, and data center applications. The ideal Senior Mechanical Engineer must be willing to work onsite 5 days a week in Saratoga, CA.

Requirements for a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Chassis include:

  • Lead the mechanical architecture and design of rack-mounted computing systems, including sheet-metal chassis, electronics enclosures, structural frames, and board-level mounting structures
  • Design manufacturable sheet-metal components and assemblies, including bending and stamping features, PEM hardware integration, tolerance stack-up analysis, structural reinforcement, and EMI/grounding considerations
  • Develop and optimize card cages, power supply mounting structures, cable management systems, and other chassis subsystems for high-density electronics platforms
  • Collaborate with thermal engineering teams to integrate liquid cooling hardware, including cold plates, manifolds, airflow ducting, and flow-management structures
  • Create manufacturing-ready CAD models, drawings, and documentation while driving Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) initiatives
  • Support prototype builds, EVT/DVT/PVT validation, production ramp activities, and supplier/ODM engagement to ensure successful product launches

Qualifications for a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Chassis include:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or a related engineering discipline
  • 7+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for electronics hardware, with preference for 10+ years in server, networking, storage, or data center hardware environments
  • Hands-on experience designing sheet-metal chassis and electronics enclosures for rack-mounted systems from concept through production
  • Strong knowledge of sheet-metal fabrication processes, including bending, stamping, PEM hardware integration, tolerance stack-up analysis, and assembly optimization
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), FMEA, and reliability engineering methodologies
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or equivalent mechanical design tools
  • Experience integrating liquid cooling solutions, including cold plates, manifolds, and other thermal management hardware
  • Familiarity with structural and thermal simulation tools such as ANSYS Mechanical, Icepak, Flotherm, or similar analysis platforms
  • Experience supporting EVT, DVT, and PVT hardware development cycles as well as production ramp and manufacturing transfer activities.

Compensation for the Senior Mechanical Engineer - Chassis includes:

  • Salary range: $210,000 - $260,000 annually
