A Taste of What Youll Do

As a Senior Market Development Manager - Retail, youll play a pivotal role in driving the growth and visibility of GALLO brands within key retail accounts. Youll bring sales and marketing strategies to life by partnering closely with distributor leadership and sales teams, ensuring strong execution of monthly programs, distribution objectives, and annual sales plans. Your work will directly influence performance in some of the most sophisticated and highest-value retail accounts in the market.

In this role, youll strategically plan your time and resources to focus on the greatest opportunities, recognizing that not all brands, distributors, or accounts require the same approach. Youll coach, motivate, and develop distributor sales representatives and district managers, adapting your leadership style to close sales gaps, improve selling effectiveness, and elevate overall performance. By drawing on market insights, competitive intelligence, and performance data, youll help shape decisions that drive sustainable growth.

Youll collaborate cross-functionally with shopper marketing, customer development, channel marketing, sales finance, and other winery partners to ensure seamless execution in the marketplace. Acting as a GALLO ambassador, youll advocate for our brands through account engagement, events, and community presence while reinforcing GALLO standards and values. What Youll Need

  • Bachelors degree plus 3 years of Gallo winery or distributor sales experience to include rotations as either an Area Manger or Account Manager reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Bachelors degree plus 4 years of CPG sales experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High School diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 7 years of Gallo winery or distributor sales experience to include rotations as either an Area Manager or Account Manager reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Skilled communicator and ability to collaborate and influence external or cross functional stakeholders.
  • Candidate is required to have a valid drivers license, a safe driving record and reliable vehicle (if applicable) at the time of hire. This position will undergo a motor vehicle check (MVR) to confirm a history of safe and responsible driving. If needed, candidate must obtain the appropriate state drivers license based on the positions location within 30 days of hire.
  • Required to obtain liquor license as required by state/locality.
  • Required to travel by air and car in order to execute job functions.
  • Required to see, taste, and smell wine and perform wine tastings as part of job functions.
  • Required to be 21 years of age or older.
  • Required to travel by air and automobile up to 25% during the course of business.
  • Experience demonstrating strong leadership selling, time management, public speaking skills
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
  • Required to be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.

How Youll Stand Out

  • Bachelors degree plus 5 years of Gallo winery or distributor sales experience to include a prior rotation as a Spirits Development Specialist Sr, Market Development Manager, Market Development Manager Sr, or Account Manager 1; OR Bachelors degree plus 6 years of external alcohol sales experience to include retail experience.
  • Experience selling or marketing Gallo brands.
  • Identifies and understands issues, problems, and opportunities; comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions.
  • Experience addressing customer needs a primary focus of ones actions; experience building positive relationships with customers (translates as both internal and external).
  • Skilled in monitoring the results of multiple assignments and projects.
  • Experience establishing action plans for oneself and others to ensure tasks and projects are completed on time.
  • Skilled in anticipating future consequences and trends accurately, can create competitive strategies and plans.
  • Skilled in commanding presence, presenting ideas effectively to individuals or a group.
  • Experience adapting presentation strategies to suit the needs of the audience and the situation; skilled in clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of media that engages and inspires.
  • Experience taking prompt action to accomplish objectives and taking action to achieve goals beyond what is required; being proactive.
  • Experience setting high standards of performance for self and others; experience implementing standards of excellence.
