Amazon is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer specializing in CNC machining to lead precision machining operations. This role serves as the technical lead for machining strategy, equipment selection, process development, and operational readiness.You will partner with internal teams and external providers to manage machining systems that support our products. This role requires deep experience with multi‑axis CNC machining, fixturing, tooling, and process validation, along with the ability to think holistically—connecting machine selection, process architecture, and operational performance. You will act as a technical leader within the broader engineering organization, driving alignment and execution across design, quality, and other domains.Key Job ResponsibilitiesOwn end‑to‑end strategy for CNC machining operations, defining process capabilities, throughput expectations, and quality benchmarksDrive selection and procurement of CNC equipment, evaluating machine platforms, tooling systems, and workholding solutions to establish standardized, scalable approachesDefine tooling strategies, including cutter selection, tool life management, optimization programs, and vendor engagementDesign and optimize layouts and machining workflows to improve material flow, machine utilization, and overall efficiencyDevelop and implement machining process plans, including CAM programming standards, setup procedures, and in‑process validation methodsLead fixturing and workholding strategies across part families to ensure repeatability, precision, and efficient changeoverBuild and manage relationships with machine tool OEMs, tooling suppliers, and integration partners, leading technical evaluation, qualification, and deployment of solutionsContinuously improve machining processes to increase efficiency, reduce cycle times, and improve tool life and surface finish outcomesEstablish and maintain comprehensive documentation, including process sheets, control plans, FMEAs, and standard operating proceduresPartner with design engineering teams to provide DFM feedback and ensure part designs are optimized for machinability and production readinessCollaborate with quality and metrology teams to define inspection strategies, SPC frameworks, and capability study requirementsWork cross‑functionally to ensure cohesive planning, integration, and execution across machining and adjacent manufacturing processesEvaluate emerging machining technologies, materials, and techniques and recommend strategic investments to enhance capabilitiesBasic QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Operations Research, or a related field7+ years of experience working with complex, high‑throughput systems or operational environmentsExperience owning and optimizing end‑to‑end processes, including performance, reliability, and quality outcomesExperience selecting, configuring, and deploying technical systems or platforms in a production environmentDemonstrated ability to analyze system performance and drive improvements in efficiency, utilization, and consistencyExperience working with external partners or vendors to deliver technical solutionsStrong cross‑functional collaboration skills, with experience working across engineering, operations, and quality teamsProficiency in data‑driven decision making, including use of metrics, statistical methods, and structured problem solvingPreferred QualificationsAdvanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical disciplineExperience designing and scaling complex systems or platforms in high‑volume environmentsDeep understanding of automation, orchestration, or workflow optimization in production systemsExperience developing and implementing monitoring, validation, or control frameworksFamiliarity with system architecture trade‑offs, standardization strategies, and lifecycle managementExperience driving continuous improvement initiatives with measurable impact on performance and reliabilityStrong technical leadership experience, including setting direction and influencing across teamsExperience evaluating and integrating emerging technologies into existing systemsAbility to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable plans for diverse stakeholdersAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
