Major/Essential Functions

 
  • Leads and mentors programming staff in developing full stack capabilities, including proficiency in web application design, security principles, APIs, C#, MVC, HTML, JavaScript, SQL, Oracle SQL, Visual Studio, and Cognos report development to support enterprise business applications. Oversees the design, enhancement, and maintenance of systems that automate and streamline accounting journal entry processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with institutional financial workflows. Provides technical leadership, establishes coding standards, and promotes cross training to build a versatile, high performing development team capable of delivering scalable, data driven solutions across the organization.
  • Provides strategic leadership for the Application Development and Finance Systems Management departments, overseeing the planning, implementation, and optimization of business systems to ensure technology solutions align with organizational goals
  • Works proactively with and under the direction of the AVP of Business Affairs and leadership teams across the institution to solve complex business problems and determine how best to provide services to Business Affairs’ customers
  • Actively participates and provides input and assistance with the strategic development and operation of Business Affairs
  • Provides strategic guidance as it relates to allocation of resources and the annual operating budget for assigned areas
  • Documents and updates business processes and procedures within area of assignment to align with Business Affairs operations
  • Provides support to the Associate Vice President of Business Affairs with management and monitoring of business and financial activities of the institution
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in data analytics, leveraging financial and operational data to generate insights that inform business decisions and enhance organizational performance
  • Establishes goals, objectives and standards related to recurring data analyses and reporting tasks
  • Assists other departments with business and financial related matters to ensure accuracy of information and promote business and financial literacy
  • Participates in training and professional development related to accounting, business operations, finance, and leadership
  • Builds cross-functional relationships with internal customers across the institution
  • Utilizes proactive, clear and professional communication
  • Performs other duties and completes other projects as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current TTUHSC employee
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related area
  • Experience managing teams and working collaboratively across departments
  • Experience in organizing and summarizing large amounts of data
  • Strong financial reporting experience in a Texas Higher Education setting
  • Experience in governmental/fund accounting
  • Experience using Cognos or other similar data querying/reporting tools
  • Knowledge of Banner finance system
  • Experience with Microsoft Office including strong Excel skills
  • Experience with Power BI or similar data visualization and business intelligence products
  • Prior experience in developing full stack capabilities, including proficiency in web application design, security principles, APIs, C#, MVC, HTML, JavaScript, SQL, Oracle SQL, Visual Studio, and Cognos report development to support enterprise business applications
  • Proven ability to oversee the design, enhancement, and maintenance of systems that automate and streamline accounting journal entry processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with institutional financial workflows
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively evaluate emerging technologies by assessing their feasibility, strategic value, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Demonstrates the ability to design and deliver business applications that streamline and automate accounting and finance processes within a higher education environment.

Visa Information
