Overview:

Responsible for providing oversight and direction to all aquatic maintenance staff, directing and supervising operations with the facility and maintenance department as well as enforce compliance with safety and OSHA regulations for hazards to effectively maintain all Association pools/spas to the highest standard of health, cleanliness, and operations, as well as aquatics related programs, staff and budget administration.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee Aquatic Maintenance training program
  • Ensure standard operating procedures for department are followed and updated
  • Ensure work orders are completed and documented in Asset Essentials
  • Manage project budgets and adherence to project budgets
  • Prioritize aquatic projects and preventive maintenance for the team throughout the association
  • Ensure team operates in a safe and productive environment
  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance and operations plans and procedures for all pools in the Association, including cleaning and servicing swimming pool filtration units
  • Manage pool maintenance and operations staff, ensuring aquatic & facility staff monitor and maintain the proper chemical balance for pools. Ensure facility staff maintain the pool pumps and filters to Association & regulatory standards
  • Works with branch staff to carry out scheduled water cleaning, using chemicals such as hydrochloric acid, sodium hypochlorite, bicarb, and CO2
  • Develop and implement emergency response standard operation and communication procedures for aquatics
  • Perform audits of pool systems and equipment at all locations
  • Monitor all equipment including pumps, conveyers, chlorinators, blowers, motors, heaters, pneumatic/hydraulic systems for pools and spas as well as chemistry and their delivery systems
  • Clean, adjust, and perform minor repairs and adjustments on aquatics and auxiliary equipment and establish relationships with vendors to assist in assessment and repairs as necessary. Repairs and maintains pool/spa electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Maintain all pool and water features using proper chemicals and cleaners
  • Implement work order system in order to respond to aquatic related work in a timely, friendly and efficient manner
  • Works with branch staff to carry out scheduled water cleaning, using chemicals such as chlorine
  • Develop and monitor facilities budget, approve expenditures and correct deficiencies
  • Make the necessary recommendations for equipment and capital improvement
  • Proficient in developing policies procedures and safety regulations for aquatic facilities
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situation
  • Knowledge of California Environmental rules and regulations and reporting requirements (CERS)
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Material/Water handling and reporting requirements for hazardous waste
  • Knowledge and use of water treatment equipment, procedures, and safety techniques
  • Knowledge of commercial pool systems and standards
  • Other duties as assigned 
Qualifications:
  • 7+ years’ experience as a commercial pool technician/engineer and three years of supervision experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable combination of experience and education
  • Required to pass a full-face respiratory mask certification
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and
    must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range: USD $82,365.08 - USD $98,838.09 /Yr.
