The City of San Pablo is looking for a dynamic, team-oriented, well-experienced Senior Maintenance for its Maintenance Division. San Pablo has a long-standing reputation for providing superior customer service to residents, businesses and visitors. The Maintenance Division provides a variety of services related to the development, construction, inspection, improvement, operations and maintenance of the Citys infrastructure, including traffic lights, sidewalks, streetlights and medians, roadways, parks, and storm drains.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The incumbent of this position plans, manages and evaluates the work of assigned Maintenance workers l/ll and staff assigned to the Division to ensure systems and processes in the organization run smoothly, comprising of set standards to manage skilled and semi-skilled employees (including 2 Maintenance workers ll, 9 Maintenance workers l and 6 part-timers) within Public Works. The Senior Maintenance Worker position represents the advanced journey level within the Maintenance Worker series and is distinguished by its high level of responsibility, complexity of assigned duties, and independence in decision-making. This role requires performing the most complex and critical maintenance tasks, while also managing increased public interaction and ensuring work is completed efficiently and to a high standard. In this position, the Senior Maintenance Worker is expected to perform specialized duties such as locksmith work and sign fabrication, while providing technical and functional supervision to assigned staff. The role requires full proficiency in all maintenance procedures within the assigned areas, as well as strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively coordinate staff and daily operations in support of the departments goals.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direction from the Maintenance Supervisor

Exercises technical and functional supervision over assigned maintenance staff.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Plan, prioritize, and review the work of staffed assigned to a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance work in streets, medians, sidewalks, parks and landscaping, and building and building facilities.

Develop schedules and methods to accomplish assignments ensuring work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.

Participate in evaluating the activities of staff, recommending improvement and modifications.

Provide and coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.

Conduct safety and training meetings

Troubleshoot and fabricate secure storage for equipment carried in Police Vehicles

Fabricate street signs using computer and applicable software, and cutter/plotter

Plan and execute layout of irrigation systems.

Perform locksmith duties as necessary

Operate heavy equipment as necessary; perform any and all duties required of subordinates as necessary; perform creek clean up and street painting

Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

Perform related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

Principles and practices of technical and functional supervision and training

Relevant local, State, Federal laws, rules, and regulations related to area of assignment

Principles and practices of contract administration and budgeting

Basic recordkeeping

Safe operation of power equipment, including mowers, trucks, loaders, and related equipment

Materials, methods, and practices used in street construction

Methods, techniques, and safety practices used in maintaining streets, catch basins, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, landscapes, and buildings

Proper and effective use of tools and equipment used in parks, grounds, building, and facilities

Irrigation repair and maintenance

Methods, techniques, equipment and procedures used in tree trimming.

EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying, A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Two years of responsible journey experience similar to Maintenance Worker II with the City of San Pablo

Training:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

License and Certificate:

Possession and maintenance of a valid Class B California drivers license, with Air Brake Endorsements.

Possession of a Qualified Applicator Certificate, category B (Landscape Maintenance) and category C (Right of Way) from the California Department of Pesticide Regulations
