TRC has been exclusively retained to appoint a Senior Maintenance Manager on behalf of a market-leading aviation support services organisation.
Operating across multiple locations throughout North America, our client delivers critical engineering and technical support services to the aviation industry. With a strong reputation for safety, operational excellence and customer service, the business manages a large fleet of specialised Ground Support Equipment (GSE) supporting some of the region's busiest aviation operations.
As the business continues to invest in its people, fleet and facilities, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced maintenance leader to join the senior leadership team at its Charleston operation.
The Role
Reporting to the Regional Director of Operations, you will lead all engineering and maintenance activities across a large and diverse Ground Support Equipment fleet.
You will be responsible for developing and executing the maintenance strategy, improving fleet reliability, driving operational efficiencies and leading a high-performing team of Maintenance Supervisors, Workshop Controllers, Planners and Technicians.
This is a highly visible leadership position offering the opportunity to influence operational performance while developing engineering best practices across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management
- Provide leadership, coaching and direction to a multidisciplinary maintenance team.
- Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, safety and continuous improvement.
- Develop succession plans and mentor future engineering leaders.
- Ensure staffing levels, training and technical capability meet operational requirements.
Maintenance & Fleet Management
- Lead all preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance activities across the GSE fleet.
- Maximise fleet availability through effective planning and resource management.
- Develop maintenance strategies that improve equipment reliability and reduce lifecycle costs.
- Oversee diagnostics, major repairs, refurbishment programmes and asset replacement planning.
- Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and in line with manufacturer recommendations.
Operational Excellence
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the engineering operation.
- Develop and monitor KPIs including:
- Fleet Availability
- Workshop Productivity
- Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF)
- Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
- Equipment Reliability
- Maintenance Cost per Asset
- Utilise CMMS systems to improve planning, scheduling and asset performance.
- Support the implementation of new technologies and maintenance best practices.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with operational teams and key customer stakeholders.
- Act as the senior engineering contact for maintenance performance and technical support.
- Collaborate with commercial and operational leadership to ensure service excellence.
- Present maintenance performance reports and continuous improvement initiatives to senior management.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental standards and company policies.
- Champion a proactive safety culture across the engineering function.
- Manage maintenance budgets, supplier relationships and contractor performance.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and equipment maintenance records.
About You
You are an accomplished engineering leader with extensive experience managing maintenance operations within Ground Support Equipment, aviation services, commercial vehicle fleets or heavy equipment.
You possess strong commercial awareness, exceptional leadership capability and a proven ability to improve operational performance through effective maintenance management.
Essential Experience
- Minimum 10 years' maintenance leadership experience.
- Previous experience leading large engineering or maintenance teams.
- Strong understanding of diesel, petrol, electric and hybrid Ground Support Equipment.
- Experience implementing preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical and electronic systems.
- Experience using CMMS platforms such as Maximo, SAP PM or similar.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven experience managing maintenance budgets and delivering operational improvements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Automotive Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Lean Six Sigma certification.
- Reliability or Maintenance Management qualification.
- Experience leading engineering transformation or continuous improvement programmes.
