Position Summary
The current vacancies are in the Parks & Recreation Department. Ramsey County Parks and Recreation is hiring Senior Lifeguards for Battle Creek Waterworks Aquatic Center and Long Lake Regional Park.
Senior Lifeguards supervise the work of lifeguard staff at a specific location and monitor a beach or pool area, including:
- Enforcing rules and regulations.
- Communicating with patrons and the Aquatic supervisory team.
- Providing first aid.
- Preventing and responding to emergencies.
- Performing related duties as assigned.
Senior Lifeguards now starting at $22.81 / hour!
Season Dates
- The Waterworks season: June 13 - mid August.
- The Beach season: June 13 - mid August.
Training InformationPLEASE NOTE: The next lifeguard training class will take place on:
- Session 1: April 2-4 at Edgewood Pool, New Brighton, MN
- Session 2: In May
- Recertification: May, 2026

- Promote a diverse, culturally competent, and respectful workplace.
- Supervise and schedule the work of lifeguard staff at a specific location, facility maintenance and patron relations.
- Ensure all facility, staff, and equipment needs are met and/or communicated with the Aquatics supervisory team.
- Maintain and confirm documentation of facility maintenance, equipment conditions, incident reports, and performance is done properly and in a timely fashion.
- Monitor the public beach or pool to oversee activities and respond to emergencies both inside and outside of the beach or pool area.
- Prevent and respond to water emergencies and injuries.
- Provide first aid, including CPR, and notify other emergency personnel as necessary.
- Inhibit inappropriate and dangerous behavior by informing guests of the facility rules and by involving enforcement personnel if necessary.
- Conduct daily inspections of the beach or pool area to ensure the facility is safe and in an operational condition.
- Delegate and assist in the cleaning of the guard room, public bathrooms, and the beach or pool area by picking up garbage, mopping, sweeping, and raking.
- Assist beach, park, and/or pool guests with questions, problems, or other concerns.
- Perform routine inspections of equipment and supplies to ensure that there is an adequate inventory of supplies and that equipment is in good operating condition.
(The work assigned to a position in this classification may not include all possible tasks in this work and does not limit the assignment of any additional tasks in this classification. Regular attendance according to the positions management approved work schedule is required.)

Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Sufficient to provide the knowledge required.
- Experience: Previous lifeguarding experience with Ramsey County or similar facility.
- Substitution: Equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Certifications/Licensure: Current certification from a nationally accredited Lifeguard Certification Program (Red Cross, Ellis and Associates, StarGuard or equivalent).
- Other: Must be at least 18 years of age or older or a high school graduate or equivalent.
Exam/Screening Process Information
- This is an unclassified, at-will temporary position.
- This position requires an open screening and selection process.
- There is no exam for this unclassified, at-will, temporary position.
- All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be forwarded to the department for consideration.

Definition of Unclassified from the Ramsey County Personnel Act:Subdivision 1. General. "The appointing authority may discharge employees in the unclassified service with or without cause. Employees in the unclassified service have no right to a grievance appeal from discharge or other disciplinary action under sections 383A.281 to 383A.301. An employee in an unclassified position shall not have tenure but shall be entitled to all benefits associated with tenure such as vacation leave, sick leave, health insurance, and other benefits as determined by the county board."
