Job Description:

Information about the Role, Line of Business and Team:

The A&H Legal Department is responsible for the various legal functions of Crum & Forster’s Accident & Health division, including contract development and tracking, litigation management, and other miscellaneous legal support to the various disciplines.

 

What you will do:

  • Support various aspects of the contracting processes through the contract lifecycle management platform, e-signature tools, AI tools, and other Legal and innovative systems, with specific milestones to be set at goal-setting sessions with your manager. You will:
    • Work with other legal team members as well as cross-functionally, and coordinate contracts workflows from request to signature.
    • Triage incoming contract requests, assign them to appropriate legal resources based on complexity, subject matter, and priority, and oversee the signing process and proper closing of contract records.
    • Monitor and manage contract renewals for all agreement types, including tracking and issuing provisional notices of cancellation for reinsurance agreements in accordance with contractually required notice periods.
    • Support the implementation and testing of newly developed A&H Legal process workflows for contract drafting and review.  Play a key role in helping the Legal team adopt these technologies, offering functionality overviews and guiding implementation logistics.
    • Introduce scalable automation and improve consistency and speed in legal document generation and analysis.
    • Collaborate with Legal, IT, and Business teams in exploring architectural solutions to streamline contract management and enhance overall workflow efficiencies.  Through these research, process design, testing, deployment, and coordination efforts, pave the way for a more seamless experience across all business units and disciplines. Encourage and support adoption through training and development of informational guides.
  • Act as a central owner for all Non-Disclosure Agreements, draft, review, and negotiate the agreements against standard A&H template standards, and legal and business objectives. Coordinate the negotiation of said contracts with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review and analyze vendor, producer, and technology agreements to ensure alignment with C&F policies and risk tolerance. Identify legal and business risks, evaluate legal arguments, and address issues as appropriate under the guidance of Legal Counsel. Lead contract negotiations using company-approved standard positions, templates, and fallback positions to drive consistent outcomes and mitigate risk.
  • Partner with other members of the Legal team to identify opportunities to enhance and refine the legal systems and coordinate the specifications for underlying data and rules-based protocols.   
  • Support claim and subpoenas reviews.   
  • Assist with regulatory-related tasks, including collecting data and supporting the preparation of materials such as Market Conduct Annual Statements and other filings.
  • Other special projects as required.

  • This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, self-motivated, highly-organized and has interest or experience with contracts, legal technology, and process optimization. We welcome candidates who are eager to develop these skills in a professional environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability or aptitude to interpret and assess legal language and contractual risk. Academic training in legal analysis, contract law, or related coursework is highly valued.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain legal issues to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working under the oversight of Legal Counsel while exercising sound, independent judgment and initiative.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally and build strong working relationships.
  • BA/BS degree in Legal Studies, Technology, Computer Science, Business, or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant coursework
  • 3+ years in the legal field, insurance industry, legal technology, or related areas; OR relevant academic projects, internships, or coursework in legal studies, technology, contract management, or process automation.
  • Experience or demonstrated understanding of working with highly confidential information, including through academic projects, internships, or professional settings
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in developing automated workflows based upon rules-based technology protocols, which may include academic projects, coursework in legal technology, computer science, or business process automation, or professional experience
  • Ability to utilize advanced features of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and database and presentation software
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn legal project management, including planning, tracking, and delivering legal support aligned with business timelines, with a high degree of initiative in managing multiple priorities. Training will be provided for candidates with strong organizational skills and relevant academic background.
  • Understanding of or ability to quickly learn basic insurance terminology. Coursework or academic exposure to insurance law or risk management is beneficial but not required.

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $55,800.00 to a maximum of $104,900.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
