Join an established financial services organization supporting investment accounting and reporting across a complex institutional portfolio. This team partners closely with finance, investment, reporting, and audit stakeholders to maintain accurate financial results, strong controls, and reliable reporting under U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting standards. The environment is collaborative, deadline-driven, and well suited for an experienced accountant who can quickly learn new processes and contribute during a critical year-end period.

What’s In Store For You

  • Engagement: W2 contract only; no C2C or 1099 arrangements.
  • Opportunity to support year-end close, U.S. GAAP audit, and statutory audit activities.
  • Assignment expected to continue through spring, allowing the selected consultant to support multiple close and audit cycles.
  • Hybrid opportunity based in Glen Allen, Virginia.
  • Three onsite days per week are expected beginning in September.
  • Remote consideration may be available for an exceptionally qualified candidate.
  • Opportunity to gain or deepen exposure to fixed income and investment accounting.

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting close activities for an institutional investment portfolio.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analyses, and supporting schedules.
  • Review accounting system outputs and investigate unusual balances, exceptions, or discrepancies.
  • Support U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare clear, complete, and auditor-ready documentation for internal and external audit requests.
  • Execute and document applicable financial controls, including SOX-related processes.
  • Troubleshoot complex Excel working files and identify formula, data, or reconciliation issues.
  • Assist with fixed income accounting activities involving pricing, valuation, income, yields, or spreads.
  • Manage multiple priorities during close and audit periods while maintaining accuracy and documentation quality.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting workflows, controls, and reporting processes.
  • Complete knowledge transfer before year-end and provide dependable temporary coverage for the team.

Are You an Experienced GAAP Accountant Ready to Make an Impact?

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
  • At least two years of progressive accounting, audit, or financial reporting experience.
  • Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge and hands-on accounting close experience.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Experience supporting external or internal audits and preparing auditor-ready documentation.
  • Working knowledge of financial controls, preferably including SOX.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to troubleshoot formulas, links, reconciliations, and complex accounting workbooks.
  • Strong financial review, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to explain accounting conclusions and communicate clearly with auditors and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fixed income, investment accounting, insurance accounting, public accounting, public-company accounting, or statutory accounting experience is preferred.
  • CPA or another relevant certification is helpful but not required.
