Scion Legal, the national legal recruiting division of Scion Staffing, has been engaged to lead a confidential search for an Insurance Regulatory Counsel on behalf of a well-established and growing insurance organization operating across multiple U.S. jurisdictions. This organization is known for its strong compliance culture, operational sophistication, and commitment to meeting the highest regulatory standards within the property and casualty insurance space, with a particular focus on auto insurance.
LEGAL OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW
This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented attorney with 3 to 5 years of insurance regulatory experience to join a collaborative in-house Legal and Compliance team. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of property and casualty insurance regulations, a proactive mindset, and a practical, business-oriented approach to compliance and risk management.
This role offers meaningful exposure to regulatory strategy, close collaboration with internal leadership and operational teams, and the opportunity to help guide a multi-state insurance platform through an increasingly complex regulatory environment.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Provide legal and regulatory guidance on property and casualty and auto insurance matters across multiple jurisdictions
Conduct legal research related to insurance regulation, privacy, data security, and compliance obligations affecting public insurance companies
Monitor regulatory developments, enforcement trends, and industry best practices
Draft, review, update, and manage insurance policies, forms, and related regulatory documentation
Support regulatory filings, audits, market conduct examinations, and data or information requests
Advise leadership and internal stakeholders on regulatory risk and compliance strategy
Represent the organization in meetings and hearings with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders
Build and maintain strong working relationships with state departments of insurance
Collaborate closely with product, underwriting, compliance, and business teams to ensure regulatory alignment
Manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
WHAT YOU BRING
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing
Licensed or willing to become licensed in Tennessee
3 to 5 years of relevant legal experience in insurance regulatory compliance
Prior property and casualty insurance regulatory experience required
In-house insurance legal department or Department of Insurance experience strongly preferred
Experience with regulatory filings, audits, market conduct reviews, and insurance data inquiries
Insurance policy contract and forms drafting experience highly valued
Strong understanding of insurance regulatory frameworks and compliance standards
Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to advise business partners effectively
Ability to work independently while collaborating with senior legal counsel
Strong judgment, professionalism, and attention to detail
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with Agile project management practices
Ability to travel occasionally, as needed
