POSITION OVERVIEW

PURPOSE OF DIVISION

The purpose of the Infrastructure Division is to manage the projects through the life cycle (planning, design, construction, commissioning, assessment of condition, modifying, replacing and decommissioning/disposal, close-out) of physical and infrastructure Houston Airport System (HAS) assets consistent with environmental regulations and best management practices. In addition to the responsibilities related to physical assets, the Infrastructure Division manages the HAS portfolio of assets and resources, with a focused goal to improve project delivery to all Stakeholders. Overall, the Infrastructure Divisions mission is to maintain and extend the effective life cycle of HASs physical assets and replace them when it is no longer financially feasible to extend the life of these assets, or they no longer support required Airport mission requirements.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Senior Inspector of Infrastructure Project Controls role focuses on the oversight, execution, and delivery of Capital Improvement Program (CIP) airport projects, ensuring airfield and terminal infrastructure is delivered in accordance with regulatory, safety, and aviation standards. This position reports to the Infrastructure Division, Project Controls, business unit.

The SENIOR INSPECTOR responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Investigate inquiries concerning code interpretations and technical problems from contractors, technical professionals and General Public.
  • Prepares and reviews reports, forms and records.
  • Assists General Public with preparing various forms.
  • Supervise direct reports
  • Schedules, prepares, and reviews work assignments.
  • Provides code interpretation to enhance technical quality.
  • Manage direct reports' timecards within the MyCOH Timekeeping system
  • Assists with training of assigned personnel
  • Conducts various inspections.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal. Requires the ability to make simple gross motor responses within large tolerances.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires an Associates degree in a field closely related to the area of inspection to be performed; OR a High School diploma/GED and Certification/licensing in a technical specialty program of over 18 months in the area of inspection to be performed.

EXPERIENCE:

Four years of Journey level or Skilled experience in the area of Inspection to be performed are required. In the areas for Electrical, Structural, and A/C and Boiler, experience must be Journey level experience received after completion of Apprenticeship program.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

May require a valid Texas drivers license and compliance with the City of Houstons policy on driving.

PREFERENCES

  • The Senior Inspector should have experience in large facility projects, e.g., airfields, terminal buildings, hangars, roadway, and commercial buildings.
  • Must be able to recognize code and regulation deficiencies related to airfields, terminal buildings, hangars, and roadways.
  • Ability to conduct inspections related to airside, landside, and terminal/building projects, and properly document any system deficiencies.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
