The City of Laramie is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the Citys Geographic Information System (GIS). This role is crucial in maintaining accurate spatial data and providing mapping and analytical support for various city departments.

The selected candidate will:

  • Develop and maintain GIS datasets.
  • Create digital and print maps.
  • Support departments with spatial data analysis and mapping needs.
  • Help improve GIS workflows, data quality, and technology integration throughout the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Developing and maintaining GIS datasets, databases, and metadata.
  • Creating digital and printed maps for city agencies and public access.
  • Supporting GIS applications and spatial data analysis for municipal operations.
  • Maintaining spatial datasets for utilities, transportation, parcels, addressing, development, and infrastructure.
  • Assisting with GIS data integration from various sources, including survey data, field collection, and external datasets.
  • Supporting GIS tools, web maps, and data visualization initiatives.
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance GIS workflows, data management, and service delivery.
  • Public interaction and communication.
  • Project management and consulting assistance.
  • Community support through workgroups and organizations.

Note: Specific duties and responsibilities will differ based on whether the role is filled as a Senior GIS Technician or a GIS Analyst.

Qualifications and Requirements: A combination of the following experience and training would be qualifying:

  • Bachelors degree in Geography, Cartography, Engineering, GIS, or a related field.
  • Four years of GIS experience with a preference for municipal or government work.
  • Experience using ESRI GIS software and associated data management tools.
  • Experience working with municipal infrastructure datasets such as utilities, transportation, land use, and public safety systems is preferred.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Wyoming Drivers License.

Engineering Division The Engineering Division within Public Works is a collaborative, technically oriented team led by the City Engineer. The division currently consists of engineers, technicians, GIS specialists, and an inspector who work together to support the Citys infrastructure mapping and engineering needs.

Applicants who are offered appointments will be required to pass:

  • A drug screening.
  • A comprehensive background investigation.
  • A drivers license check.
