Job Title: Senior Fuel Handling System Design Engineer, Nuclear
Location: Bellevue, WA
Type: Contract
Compensation: $69.00 - $115.00 per hour
Contractor Work Model: Remote – offsite
Responsibilities
- Design of nuclear fuel handling systems and fuel handling sub-systems from requirements through final design
- Coordinate the review of analyses, such as thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, heat transfer, and other analyses performed by others, integrating results into plant design delivery
- Provide design direction related to thermal and fluid design requirements
- Identify and ensure effective application of correct design codes into the design of plant systems such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to engineers in applicable nuclear and non-nuclear related design standards
- Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical and process system design
- Support planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for design activities within a system, integrating with overall plant design delivery schedule
- Interface with the design team to create and manage drawing packages, including P&ID, 3D models, and system interface drawings
- Collaborate with design disciplines to develop plant design information and specify system design and performance criteria
- Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, ensuring timely delivery of data and deliverables; perform technical reviews of deliverables
- Establish and maintain system requirements and specification documents, such as Engineering Design Specifications
- Propose and initiate testing programs for plant system qualification as needed, providing oversight during testing and evaluating results
- Generate design packages for systems, sub-systems, and equipment, coordinating calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications
- Develop and review technical design documents, including System Design Descriptions, Interface Control Documents, and Engineering Design Specifications
- Support licensing activities related to Safety Analysis Reports and participate in design reviews
Requirements
- B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university
- 10+ years of direct experience with proven mechanical systems skills
- Experience in designing complex mechanical systems, structures, and equipment, particularly nuclear fuel handling systems
- Experience with high-temperature and multi-discipline integration highly desired
- Previous experience with nuclear reactors, nuclear fuel handling process systems, or similar high-performance system design
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
- Attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence
- Self-starter with ability to coordinate and lead a design team with minimal supervision
- Ability to manage projects with multiple objectives and resolve conflicts between them
- Experience with ASME Section III and quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001
- Strong communication skills and high integrity
