Description

Team Red Dog is hiring a Senior Firmware Security Engineer – LLVM & AI Security Automation for our client, a leading cloud and software provider and AI-driven technology organization. In this highly specialized engineering role, you'll help build a next-generation firmware security analysis platform that combines LLVM compiler technology, large language models (LLMs), automated fuzzing, and AI-driven security analysis to identify vulnerabilities at scale. Working alongside compiler engineers, firmware security researchers, and platform developers, you'll develop production-quality tooling that automates complex security workflows while improving the security of critical hardware ecosystems. Top Required Skills (Must Haves):

  1. LLVM & Compiler Engineering – Extensive experience developing compiler passes, LLVM Intermediate Representation (IR), static analysis, code transformation, or other compiler technologies used to analyze and transform low-level firmware code.
  2. Advanced C/C++ Systems Programming – Strong professional experience developing production-quality software in C/C++, with expertise in low-level systems programming, debugging, performance optimization, and maintainable software architecture.
  3. Security Fuzzing & Vulnerability Research – Hands-on experience with fuzzing frameworks such as libFuzzer, AFL, or AFL++, vulnerability discovery, crash analysis, memory safety issues, and root-cause analysis of security findings.
  4. Python Automation & Security Tooling – Experience building scalable automation, developer tooling, and analysis pipelines using Python, Git-based workflows, and modern software engineering best practices.

 

Opportunity Overview:

Join an engineering team tackling one of the industry's most complex security challenges—automating firmware vulnerability discovery at enterprise scale. You'll work across compiler technology, AI-assisted automation, fuzzing infrastructure, static analysis, and production engineering to build a platform that significantly reduces manual security review while improving the security posture of firmware developed by third-party vendors. As the platform evolves toward an open-source release, you'll also help establish engineering standards, documentation, CI/CD automation, and scalable developer workflows that will influence both internal teams and the broader security community.

How you will make an impact:

  • Design and enhance automated firmware security analysis pipelines.
  • Develop preprocessing workflows that compile C/C++ firmware into LLVM Intermediate Representation (IR).
  • Build and maintain LLVM transformations that enable firmware analysis and off-target fuzzing.
  • Create static analysis workflows, call graph generation, metadata extraction, and automated code analysis.
  • Develop and improve fuzzing infrastructure using modern fuzzing frameworks and AI-assisted techniques.
  • Build automated crash triage and vulnerability classification systems that improve security signal quality.
  • Reduce false positives by enhancing vulnerability detection and analysis accuracy.
  • Develop scalable automation that combines compiler infrastructure, AI workflows, and security tooling.
  • Improve reporting systems that transform raw security findings into actionable engineering insights.
  • Validate security analysis across diverse firmware architectures and hardware environments.
  • Strengthen system reliability through testing, CI/CD automation, documentation, and modular engineering practices.
  • Contribute to open-source readiness, developer onboarding, release processes, and contribution workflows.
  • Participate in technical design reviews, architecture discussions, and long-term platform strategy.
  • Collaborate closely with compiler engineers, security researchers, firmware experts, and Azure hardware engineering teams.

The expertise you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 5+ years of LLVM, compiler engineering, or low-level systems programming experience.
  • 7+ years of professional C/C++ software development experience.
  • 3–5+ years of experience with security fuzzing, vulnerability research, or software security engineering.
  • Strong understanding of memory safety vulnerabilities and secure software development principles.
  • Experience with Python for automation, scripting, and developer tooling.
  • Experience using Git-based development workflows.
  • Ability to develop well-tested, maintainable, production-quality software.
  • Experience with firmware, embedded systems, device software, or bare-metal environments is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with hardware abstraction layers (HALs), MMIO, cross-compilation, firmware rehosting, or emulation is preferred.
  • Experience with CodeQL, static analysis platforms, or program analysis techniques is a plus.
  • Knowledge of AI, machine learning, or LLM integration into engineering workflows is beneficial.
  • Experience contributing to open-source software, CI/CD automation, or developer platforms is preferred.
