Senior Fire & Life Safety Engineer

Location: Houston, Texas
Position Type: Direct Hire / Full-Time

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Fire & Life Safety Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Houston, Texas. This direct-hire opportunity is ideal for a highly skilled professional with extensive experience in fire protection, fire alarm systems, air sampling detection technologies, and toxic gas detection systems. The successful candidate will provide engineering expertise, design oversight, code compliance review, and project leadership for complex industrial, commercial, and mission-critical facilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, or related discipline).

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License or NICET Level III Certification (Fire Alarm Systems).

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Fire & Life Safety Engineering.

  • Strong knowledge of NFPA, IBC, IFC, OSHA, and local Texas fire codes and regulations.

  • Experience designing, reviewing, and commissioning:

    • Fire Alarm Systems

    • Air Sampling Smoke Detection (VESDA or similar systems)

    • Toxic Gas Detection Systems

    • Fire Suppression and Life Safety Systems

  • Proficiency with engineering calculations, system layouts, specifications, and construction documentation.

  • Strong project management and client-facing communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and engineering of fire and life safety systems for industrial, commercial, and critical infrastructure projects.

  • Develop fire alarm system designs, calculations, specifications, and code-compliant construction documents.

  • Design and evaluate air sampling smoke detection systems and toxic gas monitoring systems.

  • Perform hazard assessments, code analysis, and life safety evaluations.

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, architects, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).

  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and system commissioning documentation.

  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and system acceptance testing.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.

  • Support business development efforts through client interaction and technical presentations.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial facilities, energy, petrochemical, manufacturing, data center, healthcare, or mission-critical environments.

  • Knowledge of performance-based fire engineering methodologies.

  • Familiarity with detection technologies including VESDA, gas monitoring systems, and integrated building safety systems.

  • Experience working directly with AHJs and regulatory agencies.
