The Senior Planner is a strategic leader in healthcare facilities planning, responsible for guiding master planning initiatives and complex projects from concept through schematic design. This role provides advanced technical expertise and serves as a trusted advisor to leadership, ensuring that planning solutions align with institutional priorities, operational objectives, and long-term capital investment strategies. The Senior Planner leads system-wide space utilization analysis, forecasts future growth, and develops integrated planning solutions that optimize functionality, flexibility, and patient-centered care. Acting as a key liaison across multidisciplinary teams?including architects, engineers, clinicians, and administrators?the Senior Planner facilitates workshops, builds consensus, and translates strategic goals into actionable design recommendations. In addition to managing high-impact projects, this role mentors junior planners, enforces compliance with regulatory standards such as ADA and FGI, and drives continuous improvement in planning methodologies and tools. By combining visionary thinking with practical execution, the Senior Planner shapes the health system?s physical environment to support innovation, efficiency, and exceptional patient experiences. The Senior Planner reports to the Director of Planning & Design.

  • 1. Direct complex planning initiatives and master plan execution, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and long-term growth objectives.
  • 2. Analyze space utilization and growth projections to inform system-wide planning and capital investment decisions.
  • 3. Develop integrated planning solutions that balance clinical workflows, operational efficiency, and patient-centered design principles.
  • 4. Prepare and present planning reports, diagrams, and visualizations to leadership, clearly communicating recommendations and implications.
  • 5. Validate scope, budgets, and planning assumptions for major projects to ensure feasibility and alignment with institutional priorities.
  • 6. Facilitate workshops and user group sessions, gathering input and building consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • 7. Ensure compliance with regulatory and institutional standards, including ADA, FGI, and internal design guidelines.
  • 8. Align planning recommendations with capital investment strategies, supporting informed decision-making at the executive level.
  • 9. Mentor junior planners and oversee deliverable quality, fostering professional development and consistency in planning outputs.
  • 10. Drive continuous improvement in planning methodologies and tools, introducing best practices and innovative approaches to enhance efficiency and outcomes.
Qualifications:

EDUCATION


Bachelor?s degree in Architecture required; Master?s preferred. License in architecture is required.


EXPERIENCE


Minimum 10+ years in healthcare master planning and design.


SPECIAL SKILLS


Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam Effective Communication and Presentation Skills Stakeholder & Leadership Coordination and Engagement Attention to Regulatory Compliance and Standards


PHYSICAL DEMAND


Moderate physical effort: intermittent standing, walking, and reaching is required without assistance. Close computer work with intense concentration more than half of the day. Ability to discern color, ability to hear conversations and telephone communications clearly. The physical working environment will be a well-lit and ventilated office space with a work area and access to plotters, scanners, and printers. Part time working environment will require visits to construction and renovation sites. Applicant must be able to navigate sites under construction including stairs and ladders unassisted.
