**Some of what you'll be doing:** As a Senior Environmental Management Specialist in the Maritime Environment and Sustainability team, you will work under general supervision to provide solutions to moderately complex environmental issues where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. You will independently conduct inspections, reviews, and research, and compile and analyze data for annual metrics, tracking, reporting, and/or progress toward goals and objectives. The position requires a particular specialization in habitat restoration, environmental sciences, and/or natural resource management in an urban environment, with additional knowledge of remediation of contaminated sites, environmental planning, and permitting considered beneficial. + You will conduct and review specialized environmental studies and assist with developing scope, schedule, and budgets. You will provide, synthesize, and/or interpret research, analysis, and/or other forms of information, and/or develop recommendations to support or inform decision-making. + You will keep current on specific requirements imposed by government agencies through reading statutes, regulations, licensing, and permits. + You will conduct or support complex research, field screening, testing, and inspections to monitor and report on regulatory thresholds for pollution levels to support compliance with local, State, and Federal regulations and permit requirements. You will also write, review, and submit technical reports for review and submission to appropriate agencies and/or management based on the interpretation of data, observations, and current regulations regarding inspection findings and recommendations for corrective action. + You will compile and evaluate environmental data in Port-owned and operated properties, buildings and facilities, industry activities, and in support of established Port programs. + You will conduct presentations regarding general environmental, noise, or sustainability issues to Port employees, stakeholders, and the general public and develop educational and informational materials related to specific programs. + You will educate Port tenants on environmental programs and initiatives and ensure that they comply with program requirements. You will also support or lead communication and/or engagement with decision-makers with supervisory direction. + You will actively participate in design reviews and construction reviews to help identify and mitigate environmental impacts. + You will develop solutions to ensure adherence to environmental sustainability programs (e.g., Sustainable Evaluation Framework and certifications) and regulatory compliance. + You will actively participate in and contribute to the development and management of the budget for assigned projects/programs. You will also support reporting requirements for grants. + You will work with Department Contract Specialist to coordinate contract management with the Central Procurement Office by providing information needed for contracts, contract amendments, and service directives, as well as review and approve contractor invoices in the Budget and Management database. + You will operate a boat to support site inspections, environmental surveys, and other field-related tasks, and must be able to obtain a Washington State Boater Education Card within the first six months of employment. **Who you are:** + **Experienced** - You have two (2) years of environmental and/or sustainability experience. You must be able to obtain a Washington State Boater Card within the first six months of employment. + **Desired** - We hope you have a bachelor's degree in Environmental or Physical Sciences, Engineering, Economics, Environmental Management, Planning or Policy. We hope you have experience in habitat restoration, natural resource management and/or landscape ecology or similar experience in shoreline and aquatic environments in urban areas. You have a solid understanding of Pacific Northwest ecological processes, native plant species, and aquatic environments. You are familiar with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, as well as basic project permitting processes. + **Efficient Communicator** - You possess strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations. You can clearly communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences and build and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including community members, scientists, regulatory agencies, and partner organizations. You also have experience engaging community stakeholders and coordinating volunteer stewardship events. + **Analytical** - You have strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. You are able to collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data and are proficient in the use of spreadsheet and database software applications. Additionally, you have experience using geographic information systems (GIS), managing environmental data, conducting research, preparing scientific and technical documentation, performing quality review, and reporting data findings. + **Program Management** - You are able to plan, coordinate, and manage a variety of moderately complex environmental projects, programs, and related activities. You can evaluate environmental issues, contribute to problem-solving efforts, and support the development of innovative solutions. You also have experience supporting consultant and contractor management, including assisting with scopes of work, project budgets, and contract oversight. **What else you need to know:** + **Work Schedule** - Your normal work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more Flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work during emergencies. + **Work Environment** - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management's discretion. + **Work Environment** - This role requires an on-site presence to support field work and community stewardship events. Work may take place at restored habitat sites, on the water, and at Port facilities. Responsibilities include walking short distances (less than one mile) over uneven or rough terrain, climbing in and out of boats, navigating variable environmental conditions, and performing restoration activities such as removing invasive species and installing native plants. + **Washington State Residency Requirement** - Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle.
